Michael Poulter played this tonight on the car radio. I like the arrangement. No mistaking its Carly Simon and not just a regurgitation of the standard.

Fun fact. Phil Capaldi, of Joe's band, is the younger brother of the late Jim Capaldi who was a member of the band Traffic (with Steve Winwood) and had a solo hit in 1975 with his cover of the song Love Hurts.

Rain stopped play in Northumberland, so I may just amuse myself with some music.

Mandolin Rain...now theres a choice to dig up some random tunes...those that are linked to the mandolin, or those which are linked to rain. Think I'll go for Mandolin tunes...

The starter for 10 that covers both

Number 2. Mandolin Songs Going to California.
Gentler than the Led Zeppelin "Battle of Evermore" which many class as the top Mandolin song.

It's not named in the title (is that a prerequisite?) but the mandolin features prominently on the soundtrack. "When I'm Dead And Gone". This version by Gallagher & Lyle who were in the band McGuiness Flint who had the big hit. It has also been recorded and covered by many other artists including Joe Brown (featured earlier).

This song was actually my first thought when I saw the word "mandolin".

EDIT - had to add this in.

This is an excellent version by Tom McGuiness with other members of the band "The Manfreds"

That's my focus Paul, just songs with a decent bit of Mandolin in them, your selection was bang on theme! Read a bit more on the Led Zeppelin song Battle of Evermore which I like but maybe an acquired taste
Battle of Evermore, is a beautiful song sung by Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin and Sandy Denny from Fairport Convention. The blend of two lead vocals from the singers of two of the most prolific bands at the time produced this unique folk duet played by acoustic guitar and the mandolin. The song was written by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. Jimmy Page composed the main mandolin base for the song while he was experimenting with the instrument, which was owned by John Paul Jones, the bassist of the band. This folky song, like many others by Zeppelin, is inspired by J.R.R Tolkien and his fantasy world. The duel vocals are composed as a conversation between the narrator and the town crier, with each part sung by Robert Plant and Sandy Denny respectively.
Easy to find on youtube if anyone wants to give it a try.

Larkin Poe are one of my favourites, same family as Edgar Allan although these two are Rebecca and Megan Lovell.
Rebecca was quite the shining star of mandolin when she was younger but now plays guitar more.

Mandolin Song Number 7 from me

Take yourself back to the 1970's with Wishbone Ash, nice gentle effort here, with a name that has been mentioned on the Pickled Egg Jukebox before, "Persephone". Mandolin comes in at 2.37
