Re: Pickled Egg Jukebox-Your Selections
I came across this amusing video while remembering the female singers I have liked over the years, I wouldn't say this was my favourite track of hers but the video has some nostalgia I enjoyed and also the lyrics may have qualified it for our comedy song list from a few days ago:

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Here's another of my favoured female voices from days gone by, the reason will soon become apparent:

Julie Felix was actually far better than I perceived her to be at the time.

From a Pickled Egg 10 South American Songs playlist a while ago
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 30 Jun 2017, 22:59 If you know nothing about a subject then a quick general query like "Peru Musicians" produces a decent list for a start.
Had a quick peruse, played a few examples from you tube. First interesting bit I discovered. the very well known Simon and Garfunkel song "If I Could" is a version of El Cóndor Pasa, Spanish for "The Condor Passes" an orchestral musical piece from the zarzuela El Cóndor Pasa by the Peruvian composer Daniel Alomía Robles, written in 1913 and based on traditional Andean music, specifically folk music from Peru.
So for a starter here's a version from a Peruvian Singer famous for her vocal range Yma Sumac odd but interesting.
But the best I have found so far for a selection of nice relaxed tunes with guitar and good vocals is the artist Tania Libertad. I've just been letting her stuff play away in the background...its really nice!
No idea what's her best...just kick off with one and autoplay on!

She may be Japanese but has adopted Paraguay as her homeland and is inspired by South American music.

A different version.
I have said many times that drums pass me by.
Not the percussionist though, love her expressions

Re: Pickled Egg Jukebox-Your Selections
Some interesting contributions from both Neil and Steve this afternoon and I feel fit to pass comments. I'm afraid that while I pride myself on not being sexist, ageist or racist, I fear I am languageist, if such a thing exists! While I fully respect everyone's right to use whatever language they choose, I equally can choose which ones I want to understand and if a song is sung in one which I do not understand I automatically deny it a chance to please me!! Thus my only comments are biased and not valid!
On the other hand music itself is an international form of audio communication which is not limited by language so I was delighted to appreciate the talent exhibited by the harpist, even though I could not comprehend the introductions
To illustrate my point:

Re: Pickled Egg Jukebox-Your Selections
I would estimate that about a third of my collection is in French, Italian, Portuguese, Greek, German, Polish, Russian, Latin and Chinese.
I have said before that I pay passing interest in lyrics, it is the voice as an instrument that attracts me.

I understand that, I like classical/Opera music, I don't understand a word of it but can be quite calming. And then I'll put on some heavy or death metal.

Re: Pickled Egg Jukebox-Your Selections
I wish I could take that viewpoint Steve, but to me the message within the lyrics is the main part of a song so if I cannot understand it then the track is a non runner for me!! Obviously I can and do appreciate the musical abilities of various artists but as soon as you add lyrics I don't understand I lose all interest!!myglaren wrote: 20 Jul 2022, 18:10 I have said before that I pay passing interest in lyrics, it is the voice as an instrument that attracts me.
