This actually not a bad record. Don Estelle had a really good voice.

My final contribution for tonight is this song which certainly brings some chuckles from the live audience: :-D

Can't beat Johnny Cash! The Highwaymen just about do somehow even though it involves Kris Kristofferson

Let us give this theme a try, see if we can't get a another playlist of 10 mildy amusing tracks (yes its very unlikely that a hilarious track has ever been written) :-D What I would describe as gentle light entertainment all the better with a familiar chorus to join in with!
Quite a decent effort there from the FCF faithful and worth a revival, thanks to all contributors :-D

Maybe with a suitable passage of time "10 Morse code tracks" and "10 tracks based on places on the traditional monopoly board" will get a revival, or indeed new ground will be broken with other brand new themes, reflecting the traditional inventiveness of the FCF pickled egg punter. :-D

Not that I want to revive it now, but for the benefit of a new audience this discovery started off the Morse code theme...

NewcastleFalcon wrote: 04 Sep 2017, 17:21 Came across this which may have half a chance of of entertaining some of the Pickled Egg punters.

There really is nothing unpleasant about it, and if you know your morse code....all the better.

I am no expert but CQ as in the title does have a particular meaning. One interesting explanation of its origins is in the French word "sécurité". The recording is from 1960, it crackles at the start. has a bit of morse, then goes into a "swing" sort of tune......yes on the whole semi-interesting and reasonably pleasant.

Yes and on Inspector Morse, very subtle never realised

The music spelt out his name and left an indelible mark on our minds. The British public’s thirst for classy crime drama was well and truly satiated by John Thaw’s brilliant portrayal of the world-weary, classical music-loving detective, who entered our lives between 1987 and 2000. The dark, hypnotic theme tune was composed by Australian-born Barrington Pheloung, who employed a Morse code motif for the letters that spell the name M.O.R.S.E. In occasional episodes, Pheloung’s music would even reveal the name of the killer in Morse code, or sometimes the name of another character (as a red herring).

Here's the theme

I always thought that it was a play upon the words "seek you". The French pronunciation of the letters would be "say koo" which really doesn't sound like securité to me.

I used to be a 20 words per minute occasional Morse man but I'm afraid that twenty odd years of disuse has reduced my comprehension to almost zero.

I used to be able to transmit morse at 100 characters per minute - only problem was I didn't know what characters I was sending!! :-D

Does anybody remember the series of "Top Gear" when the Stig was listening to Morse Code when running a Power Lap?

Ah Mr Preview. All the right characters but not necessarily in the right order.

Anyone want to hear the CQ Serenade in its original French, the official Language of International Postal Services. Currently it's gathering dust in the archives but appropriate to bring it into the sunlight for a brief airing. Just a little work required though, no easy youtube link to press play on, but a link to an MP3 file which requires clicking on this link here.
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 15 Jul 2019, 12:32 Can I hear the virtual clamour of disgruntled FCF members chanting "This if the FCF, We want the original CQ Serenade-in French!" Ok then here it is sung by Raymond Girerd....all I can give you is an MP3 though...no visuals :-D .

Wish I could do this. Even 5 seconds of it would be an achievement for me. If push comes to shove, I can just about play the triangle

Reminiscent of Imogen Heap. She has been doing stuff like that for decades, plays an amazing range of instruments and can re-create it all live.

A minor claim to fame is that I have an open invitation to her farm/studios.
