Re: Pickled Egg Jukebox-Your Selections
<Much snippage>
".........And I looked and it was the cover of the newspaper that China had invaded, it was in March of ’59. I was horrified, of course, it wasn’t the kind of news that I wanted to report, but I’d studied so much about it that I knew all about his holiness, and it was a terrible thing, but my scrapbook got filled up and I had quite a bit of news to tell about my country.
“So, the song reflects that; the song 1959, it’s ‘Listen to my story, got two tales to tell’, it’s like the Dickens thing, The Tale of Two Cities: there was the 1959 American dream happening with the big cars and the beatniks… everything. Thinking of what America was up to in 1959 and then on the other side of the world, the horror of what was happening in Tibet. It just came into my head. When I heard the music I really liked it, and Tony was born in 1959."

Presumably " 'cause we built that thing and it grew wings, in Nineteen-Fifty-Nine" is an oblique reference to the 1959 Cadillac with its monstrous wings. ?

Re: P.E.Jukebox your selections please
Put together a couple of years ago on the thread, winter seasonal playlist in the trademark eclecticism which is the tradition of the Pickled Egg Jukebox.
Regards Neil
PS Try Sting's "The snow it melts the soonest" or "Christmas at Sea", or Leonard Cohen's "Dance me to the end of love". Proper instruments and in my view musical genius at work.NewcastleFalcon wrote: 19 Nov 2019, 20:53 The Pickled Egg Jukebox has a winter playlist......it is here.

and the first song on it surprisingly (not) put up by yours truly is "River" from Joni Mitchell. Heard Ellie Goulding's cover of it on the car radio today, which wasn't bad at all, but if you know the song well, you only hear Joni's voice, and come up with probably an unfair comparison.

Re: Pickled Egg Jukebox-Your Selections
Over the last couple of posts the subjects of rivers and musical genius have been mentioned. I'm afraid I'm not a fan of the song Steve has put up regardless of whose version it is, I just don't like the song!! For me there is one classic video which covers both topics and throws in a liberal dose of nostalgia:

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Steel River by Chris Rea is also a great song about the Tees in a similar vein.

And then there's this other old favourite of mine:

Re: Pickled Egg Jukebox-Your Selections
I watched the rerun of a 1997 Bee Gees concert tonight and it caused me to go and look for this clip. I like it because it demonstrates proper talent without all the paraphernalia of a concert stage and sound setup. The video quality is not great but I think the talent on show was!!

Re: P.E.Jukebox-your selections please
Thought I would do a selection at random of a Jan 2021 to Dec 2021 PE Jukebox pages (235-254)
235 came up i.e. the first set of posts for January 2021. So Post 1 of the new year on the PE jukebox was selected.
Another selection bu MTM! by pure random chance

Re: Pickled Egg Jukebox-Your Selections
This music from this is quite striking and, reminded me of something, so I looked it up. It is a new "classical" composition. According to one of the comments this little snippet is all that will ever be released, and was written specifically for the advert.

The scenes in the advert are Glencoe Loch Leven and the final scene Ettrick Valley nr Selkirk in the borders.
Does the music remind you of some other piece? Can't put my finger on it. Its by Sebastien Plano.

Re: The Pickled Egg-your virtual local!
Not that it is anywhere near a decent match, has some of the "feel" and its worth digging out in its own right for those who haven't heard it.

There's a whiff of Max Richter - On The Nature Of Daylight about it.

Re: Pickled Egg Jukebox-Your Selections
Sorry to say the thing it triggers for me is memories of my sister practicing her violin when I was trying to watch the TV. Endless repetitions of scales and arpeggios used to wind me up to the point of switching off the TV and going outside to play football - probably her intention!!NewcastleFalcon wrote: 09 Jan 2022, 13:46 This music from this is quite striking and, reminded me of something, so I looked it up. With that 'sawing the violin in half' sound
maybe a bit of Vivaldi.
