As I have said previously, I have a laptop running YouTube playlists that is being quite pleasing and seems somewhat psychic.
Been lots of Neil Young and Bryan Ferry, two of a very select few male warblers I can tolerate.

This just appeared. Excellent stuff, although Bryan doesn't look quite his usual suave James Bondish self.
About the only improvement would have been to have the wonderful Jorja Chalmers on the sax. However, as well as the phenomenal backup singer, the girl with the bongos and rattle sticks is a visual delight.

To save agonising over "wonder what the car is?" IMCDB and the film as a whole helps out. At the end of this atmospheric, mostly monochrome accompanying scenes from the film, we see the car for a brief moment in colour at the end.
Spoiler: show
Its a 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible

My old friend saw this guy in cabaret bought his records and became a fan but later he stood beside Margaret Thatcher on an election promotion programme, she being an ardent red dumped him, she's softened now and he's back in favour. :-D

Remember him from years ago on the Beeb, covering popular songs at the time - badly, in my estimation - so the Beeb got out of paying royalties.

There is a little feature on the Afternoon Show on Radio Newcastle called "DJ Detectives". 3 clues to a track played at the end of the show. Obviously the type of thing I like, but for a while I have been trying to fathom out what the music is in the background when the clues are given. You know the type of thing, background to a monologue by the detective in the smoke filled office, noir jazz.

Well this is it, it all originates from a video game called LA Noire, and is part of the soundtrack to that video game.

I'll dump it here so I can find it again, but the wiki page has some interesting info on the soundtrack.

Max Richter was not a kick in the pants away from being given the honour of debuting on the First Day thread with his composition "November" performed at the Forbidden City Beijing, and featuring Norwegian Violinist Mari Samuelson.
accompanied by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Long Yu.

Luckily for him, autoplay did what autoplay does, and along popped another of his compositions, bit easier to get into, and more relaxing. "On the nature of Daylight"

Sombre, but relaxing. One for the Snug, a glass of brandy, and a crackling fire.

A bit tenuous but with a nod to Zel's thread recently.

Not the best recording but nice pictures.
Pocohontas
Aurora borealis
The icy sky at night
Paddles cut the water
In a long and hurried flight
From the white man
to the fields of green
And the homeland
we've never seen.

They killed us in our tepee
And they cut our women down
They might have left some babies
Cryin' on the ground
But the firesticks
and the wagons come
And the night falls
on the setting sun.

They massacred the buffalo
Kitty corner from the bank
The taxis run across my feet
And my eyes have turned to blanks
In my little box
at the top of the stairs
With my Indian rug
and a pipe to share.

I wish a was a trapper
I would give thousand pelts
To sleep with Pocahontas
And find out how she felt
In the mornin'
on the fields of green
In the homeland
we've never seen.

And maybe Marlon Brando
Will be there by the fire
We'll sit and talk of Hollywood
And the good things there for hire
And the Astrodome
and the first tepee
Marlon Brando, Pocahontas and me
Marlon Brando, Pocahontas and me
Pocahontas.

On the Neil Young Front, Jo Whiley played this tonight on a Spice theme (25 years since the Spice Girls Released Spice.)

So Neil got the nod, with Cinnamon Girl, the first record Bob Harris played in his BBC radio Career. Neil also for information is part of a range of celebs, economists and activists in the Pigou Club...advocating Pigouvian Taxes on the negative externalities of fossil fuels. Energy matters Global and Domestic covered such matters this week.

One of my favourites, partly due to an 'Only Connect' bit of nonsense.

It sounds a bit like Cimmaron Girl. There was a TV series called Cimmaron Strip (cowboy thing) and the girl in it looked a lot like my wife - in the years that were were apart, in different countries.

Had an amusing thing happen the other day. Heating engineer came to drain and refill out heating system and add anti-corrosion fluid. Jackie Evancho was on the stereo and he was very taken with the song and her voice, asked who she was. Showed him the CDs. He went on his phone and bought every single one available there and then.
I did mention her first one that was withdrawn after ten months as she had improved so much - one was sold last month for $5,000.
