I like this, don't expect fast its a lullaby, nice bit of mandolin and violin,

Words By Robert Burns, the melody is by J.E. Spilman, written in 1838, as interpreted by Nickel Creek

In normal circumstances we would have probably had a trip up to Kelso/Melrose/Jedburgh and got one from one of the hundreds of butchers over the border claiming to have award winning haggis, or maybe even World Champion haggis!

Weren't switched on enough this year so not the usual Burns supper!

P.E.Jukebox-Burns Night.

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

Well this got revived last year on Burns Night. You can always enjoy the trams trolley buses and old cars! My parting shot on a less than fruitful Pickled Egg Jukebox Special.
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 25 Jan 2020, 22:04 From the archives, Glasgow trolley buses with a bit of musical accompaniment :-D
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 27 Oct 2017, 21:43 Anyone come across Eddi Reader? Of course you have.....it's got to be...perfect!

I came across her today, providing the background track to this "Bell Book and Candle" followed by "I wish I was in Glasgow"-Billy Connolly

Neil, although he was born in Newcastle, my dad grew up in Glassgow. Embarrassingly I know neither city  , although I have been watching some of the u-tube old films on both. I feel an affinity....
His job took then him down to the south east and then abroad to India, Singapore and Hong Kong.

I did go up to Hampden Park once many years ago to see England lose to Scotland 2-1; perhaps I should have stayed away?
Quite amusing, as the very noisy crowd descended into absolute silence when England scored first; the many Saltire and Scottish lions being dropped from sight
Sadly didn't last

Mark Knopfler went the other way Harry, born in Glasgow and raised in the north east from 7 years old but very much I would say "one of our own"

You may enjoy this if you like Mark's stuff. There are really some top videos Mark has done as well as with his performances, some of his best are those where he talks about guitar playing and his guitars.

50 years ago today this was top of the charts and it was the track that convinced me we had lost a great group:

Ironically it was hotly pursued by this at number 2 and I didn't really get it then, but I do now :-D

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Mentioned in Jim's Vintage Audio thread I discovered a tape by Cornelis Vreeswijk.
I don't expect anyone to understand this but he was made up at winning a prize in Sweden's leading woman's magazine. For the most disgusting song written by a man!

He thought it was great that his "Incestvisa" was so honoured.
The went on to say that he had only translated it, from English.
It is a Buffy Sainte-Marie original - but not even that, she learned it from her grandmother, a Mi'kmaq indian.

At first I met Marie and damn it how I fell in love ?
We were going to get engaged, but my dad unfortunately said
Keep your fingers from that girl my son and shun her like the plague
Be cause you and her has the same father and then it would be incest

Then I met Linnea and we rustled for a while
Then it could not be helped that Linnea became pregnant
When her mother saw my father, she pitched up weeping
Linnea was my sister and then we had break up

Anita and Carina, Britt-Louise and Siv
Yes, one hundred other ladies I had to delete from my life
Be cause my dad knew their mother and told me straight away
You can't marry her my son cause you are actually related

Do you now understand citizens that I became quite pissed off
Every single lady in our town was I related to
My sex life made was really difficult to ashes became my glow
So I went to my mom and complained about my distress
