Prompted by the activity over on the VE Celebatory thread:

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Another track prompted by my searches for the VE thread, I do like this:

While reading about Steve's adventures in his hifi store I couldn't help thinking of this track: :-D

Having worked out my 9 singles for the desert island thread I thought I'd get them onto the jukebox over the next couple of weeks, so here's the first one.
I picked this song because I like the guitar part and the song tells a story which I find believable. It is the tale of John's uncle who, after a family disaster, grew to be his friend:

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

I'm normally ambivalent to drums, just sounds like a load of rattling and clattering if I notice it at all but I do like this, I appreciate that it is more percussion than drumming, a distinction that is rather lost on me I'm afraid.

These two are very much like Dead Can Dance in the rhythms they use and that Azim Ali makes up the language she sings in half the time - otherwise it is mainly Farsi.

I will note that the difference in sound between this laptop and a proper stereo it has been playing on previously is astronomical.

I have just listened to that Steve and found the percussion very pleasing. Sadly spoiled for me by lyrics I don't understand for obvious reasons and for the higher pitch singing voice. We've had that discussion before and this track further confirms your liking of the female voice is much stronger than mine!
As regards the definitions you mentioned, I believe that "percussion" is the section of the orchestra made up of instruments where the sounds are produced by impact. Drumming is a specific part of that but the primary purpose was timekeeping rather than adding to the structure of the piece.
Having said all that I'll take this opportunity to post the next one of my DID singles:

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

I do seem to have fallen under the spell of females. Regarding the percussion thing, I like Jodi Linscott, who is percussionist for such diverse talents as Mike Oldfield and Dido.

Regarding John & Yoko, I recently discovered that they had a son, Shaun, who is also a musician, only brought to my notice by the bassist in his band, Charlotte Kemp-Muhle.

I also became very aware of the percussion/drumming on the Greek albums that I have and like it. It is almost tangible through a decent set up. Perhaps it is the middle-eastern thing.

It would seem that my definition of percussion was a little too narrow!! :)

Indeed.

This is an amazing percussionist:

Not percussion so please excuse my random tangent, but on selecting a few old musichall songs from the early 1900's I came across this randomly popping up at the side for some reason.

Hands up if you knew the BeeGees first national television appearance was doing "My old man's a dustman"

I had no idea whatsoever. My brother was a big BG's fan. I didn't catch that infection.

Life on Mars done, back to the 80's now, Gene Hunt and the Audi Quattro and a couple of nice background songs

Atmospheric cameo of I'm in love with a German Film Star, and the end scenes nicely enhanced by Roxy Music's Same old Scene
