I came across this chap who makes a great job of The Beatles ballads:

Far from it but not a bad suggestion.
Been listening to Dead Can Dance for years now.
This is one album I have yet to add to the collection.

It has been pointed out to me that I missed an opportunity to post the 1812 Overture a few posts ago so I thought I'd post this instead and see if the link is spotted? :-D

The link was spotted so I'm afraid it no longer applies! For the curious among you at the time I posted this I had received 617 likes for my posts and hence the music!!

Thanks James for inadvertantly leading me to this which I found entertaining, amusing and very cleverly put together. It may appear political and hence not allowed but if you listen right through you will find it is not party political just planet political. I just think its a good listen!!

Having been browsing you tube I was quite surprised to find this. I had never realised that this guy was such an accomplished guitarist, I had him in my country singers who strum along pigeon hole!!:

Having found out how interesting a guy Glen Campbell was I was equally surprised and somewhat saddened to find this, his last ever recording:

Prompted to dig this out. Bought the LP in about 1968. It was something of a cult hit in Whitby, perhaps the association with the sea there.
Also have the CD :)
It seems to be quite polarising, only my youngest daughter likes it.
I worked with an American who had lived in Amsterdam and moved in the same circles as Rod McKuen. Wasn't complimentary about him.

I'm with your youngest on this one Steve, I like the art of "speaking to music" and over the years I have been taken with many tracks that use the technique. From the middle verses of Tom Jones' "The Green Green Grass of Home" to Telly Savalas' "If" I have always found it enchanting. One of my favourites of this genre, which does have some singing, really accentuates the ability of the speaking voice to paint a picture. See what you (and maybe your youngest) think of it:

Not for me I'm afraid Mick.

The criticism levelled at "The Sea" is that the poetry is cheesy.

That is cheese in industrial quantities.

Sorry :(

Never been a Jim Reeves fan. That Welsh bloke really gets on my nerves too.
