Non PC but Michelle Philips was such a beauty. She would have made more money modelling.
The last surviving member. Saw her in a film a few years back and she was still gorgeous. Crap film IIRC.
Daughter Chyna in "Wilson Phillips" not in the same class unfortunately.

Christ The Redeemer statue as a doctor.

Which is all the excuse I need to post Cristo Redentor.

Superb album and this is probably the weakest track on it. Title track for the album.

Far better is Wade In the Water.

Perfect late night music, along with Santana's "Abraxas" and "Super Session" with Steve Stills etc.

Just been talking to my second daughter about her eldest, who was doing photography at college but has dropped it, may return to it eventually.
I mentioned that I have recently bought the DVD of "Blow Up", which got me into photography.
Of course, Jane Birkin was mentioned, and naturally this, that had the Beeb all hot and bothered.

Banning it just increased the sales of the record. It was apparently a jailable offence to listen to it in Portugal.

I seem to recall that the pirate stations played it almost constantly.

But re your other post -

I've just been watching the film The Damned United, about Brian Clough and his brief spell at Leeds

This plays in the background in one scene, and makes me realise I haven't listened to it for a while

The spectrum of your musical knowledge never ceases to amaze me Steve, I have never heard of Fiona Apple before yet found it good listening. I cannot think of any other song which makes the word 'you' last over so many bars!! :)

Try her earlier albums Mick, "Tidal" was her debut.

Then "When the Pawn Hits the Conflicts He Thinks Like a King What He Knows Throws the Blows When He Goes to the Fight and He'll Win the Whole Thing 'fore He Enters the Ring There's No Body to Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might So When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is the Greatest of Heights and If You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where to Land and If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You'll Know That You're Right," Probably the longest ever album title :)

Then Extraordinary Machine that almost came out, there was an accidental release, then she pulled it and made some changes before the official release.

Then "The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do," Which is my favourite, only by a smidgeon though.

This is from The Idler Wheel and is both amusing and poignant. Love her 'instrument' made from plumbing bits :)

Anything We Want.

I usually pay scant attention to lyrics but Fiona's can be riveting.

Also this one with her sister, Maud Maggert.

She rubs a lot of people up the wrong way, does entirely her own thing, is not commercial.
She is one of the piano wunderkind angsty difficult types but a tremendous talent nonetheless
Her "New Best Artist" acceptance speech really upset a lot of people but was magic to see.

An interesting woman

I'll put the soapbox back under the stairs now

Didn't like Anything We Want, loved, Hot Knife and the speech was great!! I love people who say what they believe in regardless of popular culture. EG wine tasting - its good or its bad!! :-D

She has a lot of other brilliant stuff.
Rarely does covers but her "Across The Universe" is great.

Just love her here, rather unexpected.

She usually just chucks any old clothes on. She looks really good with some nice clothes on.
I wonder if the producers were responsible, although she doesn't respond well to having her arm twisted.
Probably due to her awful experience as a twelve year old. Both broke her and made her stronger.

It would seem it has been overtaken:

I will listen to more now, liked those two and read up her history, I just can't believe I'd never heard of her!! Thanks Steve.. :) :)
