If that put you in a melancholy mood then this won't help, from the same source:

For those of you that like Jim Reeves these two videos tell his story, they are 42 mins long altogether so set aside a time to watch. Enjoy :) :)

Heard this lady on R3 yesterday and was impressed. Thought at first it was Dead Can Dance but they are unlikely to be featured on R3.
Nice interview by Katy Derham and she wrote a piece for the show practically on the fly.

One that shows her playing her instrument, a 72-string zither called a qanun.

I have just listened to those two examples Steve, and I have to agree that she is a very talented musician with an obvious passion for her music. Sadly it is not for me because I do not like the "voice" of the zither family of instruments. I find the notes are harsh and twangy in my ear compared to the much more mellow tones of a quality classical guitar. The reality is, it is meant to be like that and I am sure millions of people love it, but it just doesn't work for me!! :(

I fully agree that it won't work for everyone, or even the majority. Music is like that, we like what we like and the rest of it is just noise.

How do you turn a duck into a soul singer ?

Stick it in the microwave and wait until its bill withers.......

I'll get my coat.

Before he left us I'm sure he would have chosen this as the most appropriate of his songs at the moment:

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

In a post by Peterp in the Passing Time thread he mentions a Tecumseh motor.
I have only heard the word previously mentioned here

I had tickets to see Townes Vaan Zandt a few years ago, a concert in Middlesbrough.
Unfortunately he up and died the week before.

A troubled soul, part of a very wealthy family he would accept nothing from them.

That is indeed a much better song, I hadn't even heard of him before this but I can now see the appeal! :)

He is very niche. Famous for writing Pancho & Lefty, recorded by many.
He was mates with The Cowboy Junkies and toured a lot with them - as was the late John Prine.

Dylan really is dreadful live :)
He did say that Townes was a better songwriter than he was.
A prettier face.

The story behind it

Living on the road my friend
Was gonna keep you free and clean
Now you wear your skin like iron
Your breath's as hard as kerosene
You weren't your mama's only boy
But her favorite one it seems
She began to cry when you said goodbye
And sank into your dreams
Pancho was a bandit boys
His horse was fast as polished steel
Wore his gun outside his pants
For all the honest world to feel
Pancho met his match you know
On the deserts down in Mexico
Nobody heard his dying words
That's the way it goes
All the federales say
They could have had him any day
They only let him hang around
Out of kindness I suppose
Lefty he can't sing the blues
All night long like he used to
The dust that Pancho bit down south
Ended up in Lefty's mouth
The day they laid poor Pancho low
Lefty split…
