Dur dur dur dit dit daaah....dur dur dur dit dit daaah
Sang it into a phone with one of those song recognition apps.....useless no record.

I have found my tune......turns out to be Classical Gas one of the ten great instrumental hits of the 1960's by Mason Williams with a little help from the famous "The Wrecking Crew" of studio musicians.

Completely mislead the forum unintentionally though.
Dur dur dur dit dit daaah....dur dur dur dit dit daaah is quite obviously Pentangle with Lite Flight

No what I was trying to find was
Dur-Dur-Dur dit-dit daah daah daah dur-dur-dur dit-dit daah
Yes the aforementioned Classical Gas

That would never have occurred to me Neil and the LP is only feet from where I'm sitting.
Bought when "Take Three Girls" was on TV - '65-ish.

I had a friend, a drummer, who had a vast collection of records featuring Green Onions.
He was last seen on a BBC program about foreign prisons - he was a prisoner in Changi jail.

Had a bit of an Alan Parsons session a couple of weeks ago...of course Lucifer has made it into The Pickled Egg 10 Morse Code songs list.

For the chart hitting instrumental singles of the 1960's look no further then Herb Alpert

Eurovision song contest 4th place with this tune........... I remember her name she appeared for Luxembourg but was Greek and sung it in French. 10 points for her name, she went on to win the contest for Luxembourg with Avec-Toi.

Paul Mauriat recorded an instrumental version which became the only Number One hit by a French artist to top the US Billboard Hot 100. His version topped the chart for five weeks in February and March 1968.

I saw a film - I was thinking "Mighty Joe Young" then remembered it was "Conga", a King Kong ripoff, that used that as it's theme tune. Always liked it.
It was an orchestral version though - as you note, F&T don't do it justice. My dad thought they were great. I remain unconvinced.
