Re: P.E.Jukebox-Advent Calendar!
Two worthy candidates for the advent calendar caught my ear on the radio today. Alison by Elvis Costello the more well known of the two, but the other a very nicely constructed song which I hadn't heard for years...
Worth a listen

Re: P.E.Jukebox-Advent Calendar!
That'll do Steve.
Thinking again the stand out tracks from my radio listening today were "Bat out of Hell" by Meatloaf and "All of my Heart" by ABC.
I always listen to anything from that iconic Meatloaf album with different ears since I discovered that Todd Rundgren was the producer and played guitar on "Bat Out of Hell". Major fan of Todd here.
But its ABC that get the nod today from me. The Lexicon of Love is such a fantastic album and "All of my heart" is one of the stand out tracks...

P.E.Jukebox-Advent Calendar! Day5
So what have we got today for the PE Jukebox Advent calendar day 5.
When was the last time anyone put a John Denver record on the record machine.....and I don't think he has made his debut at the Pickled Egg yet.
This was on the radio today...not bad quite liked it, and like I say, some time since I heard JD
but do I have memories of John Denver and Friends, and Olivia Newton John in particular all Christmasy with open fires and jumpers.....maybe....I'll have a look!
Regards Neil
well not quite how I remember it..no jumpers, no open fires and ONJ with a very 70's haircut

Lovely just the same but a bit frumpily dressed in the John Denver Christmas show...much better in Grease!
Now I have just now discovered the Trans-Siberian Orchestra to wake us up with one of their seasonal offerings

P.E.Jukebox-Advent Calendar! Day 6
Day 6 in the Pickled Egg
Keep you ears open today for a potential PE Advent Calendar entry. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra have to be a difficult act to follow. That was just awesome in my book.
Have they made an appearance at the PE before? Can't find an entry on a word search, but Steve often just puts up the video. Well they have now and as long as they can fit their equipment into the back room they can come back anytime!
Regards Neil

I do have a vague recollection of dropping at least one TSO clip in but it was a long time back.

Day 11
Well the reminiscing on POTD today, and my first ever casette....."The Spinners Live Performance".my.Day 11 selection has to be something from that.
So here's the choice.
Tracklist
A1 Drunken Sailor
A2 Liverpool Judies
A3 Linstead Market
A4 Navvy Boots
A5 Jug O' Punch
B1 Rothesay-O
B2 Three Jolly Boys
B3 Gungu Walk
B4 The Leaving Of Liverpool
Throw in a bonus bit of The Minstrel Boy before and the selection is B4. Yes the massed voices of the PE could easily join in with the Chorus as glasses of ale are swung and swigged.
Regards Neil

Re: P.E.Jukebox-Advent Calendar!
Of course there are other "Spinners" and this is one of their most familiar and best songs in my opinion.
A slice of Motown on Day 11 too.
Yes and over here in the UK, they called themselves "The Detroit Spinners" to avoid confusion with our very own Spinners.
Regards Neil

Re: P.E.Jukebox-Advent Calendar!
Now if you are a Steely Dan Fan like me you will know all about the guitar work of Larry Carlton.
..and if you spot that "Could it be I'm falling in love" has also been recorded by Larry...you just have to find it..
..and having found he has done a whole album dedicated to The Philidelphia Sound I'm just going enjoy letting it autoplay on!
Regards Neil

P.E.Jukebox-Day 12 Advent Calendar!
Day 12
Guess who got an airing on the radio today....none other than the Detroit Spinners. "Working my way back to you babe"
...but its "comin' on Christnas" and Joni's Christmas offering also got its seasonal play on Jeremy Vine's show on Radio 2 today.
This is a live version from the Royal Albert Hall in 1970.
Regards Neil
