Having satisfied myself that it is indeed the same song, quite a few artists have their version so just picked out Eva Cassidy from the top of the list...

and the cast-iron link.....its the same song!

It is ubiquitous but IMO Harvey Mandel does it best.
Love the Cowboy Junkies but they don't quite cut it on that.

They do do a good job on:

Even more renditions of that one!

So in the second of my series of unimaginative links I go for the same song......

but which "Celtic Woman" :?:

Well Lisa Kelly has already made an appearence at the PE with a lovely rendition of "Caledonia" which went down well in the back room, so the Landlord has decided to give Orla Fallon an audition on the stipulation that she also weaves in something to appeal to a wider world audience.

Orla is a good turn on the Harp too, so chances are she could get the gig!

Fancy a trip to Cuba? The link being another familiar song which has been covered by many artists. This is about as original as I have found

and just for good measure..."Once on a Sunday Morning" from the Sandpipers (yes who also did Guantanamera) but not the words we are familiar with....The original was writen by Luis Aguile and the "Once on A Sunday Morning" lyrics penned by Eddie Snyder and Larry Kusik and not much to do with the original "When I Left Cuba"

The Beeb played "Back in Black" over the end credits of the Scotland/All Blacks game yesterday. Angus and Malcom emigrated in 1963 from Glasgow with a fair few members of the Young clan.

So with brothers the link, and no takers for obvious links from Cuba, bit of 70's Disco from the aforementioned Gibson Brothers (from Martinique as it turns out) with a familiar tune...

Cuba too difficult? Not really but this link eventually heads to Liverpool.

So first we have a song from a 1931 film..."Our Cuban Love Song"...standard easy link.

Then we head to Liverpool courtesy of an extract from the "Timeshift" Programme on BBC Four about "Sailors, Ships and Stevedores..The Story of British Docks"

The Sailors from Liverpool brought back from the USA records and music. A recording by Roy Hamilton, made its way back from USA to Gerry Marsden via a salior friend. It included "You'll Never Walk Alone" which worked its way into the fabric of the football team and the City.

So I'll not go for Gerry and his pacemakers version but the version which inspired them to record the song.
Yes and the link with "Our Cuban Love Song"......Roy Hamiltion recorded that too.

Well the link still needs to be the Bangles and Going Down to Liverpool but I'll insert an entertaining interlude.

We've had Spock driving a car, so now over to Captain Kirk...and the spot prize quiz question

What car is Kirk driving?

According to Memory Alpha, it was a 'Packard', but not of the 'Hewlett' Variety. :-D

So that episode was called "A Piece of the Action"

Also an Album of the same title by one 'Mavis Staples', from whcih this little track popped up:

So

You could be right Neil , another site has it as a 1930 Cadillac V12 coupe, with a mega explanation about lack of synchromesh, hence the grinding gears.

Oh well, it made the link still without the car, although I hasten to add I don’t have any records in my collection entitled “Koochie, Koochie, Koochie” in my defence!

I like trying out tracks and artists I have never heard before...pleased Mavis Staples has now made her debut, never heard PM Dawn's Paper Doll before but I think the PE Punters should soon pick up the words....Paper Doll is repeated 100 times after all!

Knew I had come across PM Dawn before, but didn't realise their most famous track pays homage to the Boho Dance by Joni Mitchell from Hissing Of Summer Lawns, as well as sampling Spandau Ballet's "True".

So I am going to take the link on with Joni and these lyrics, which were "homaged" in "Set Adrift on memory Bliss" PM Dawn's greatest Hit!

A camera pans the cocktail hour
Behind a blind of potted palms
And finds a lady in a Paris dress
With runs in her nylons
