Absolutley not Tim...

No theres no Balance shafts, but ALSO the Cam belt on a 2.5 does NOT drive the water pump, where on the 2.1 theres no balance shafts, and the cam belt drives the water pump... They are only simmilar by both having 12v heads, but thats as far as it goes unfortunally im led to beleve!!

The 2.5 is also drive by wire with ECU for the Pump, no idea how different this is to Lucas EPIC though..

I think the bosch 1.9td zx/xantia were used on land rover 2.5td's i believe, (which were bmw engines). So they can provide the capacity, if u can get the full manual pump u can tune it up... after the drama of the belts and how it goes on etc.

There are running examples of the 2.1 running with a Bosch fitted from a 1.9. Not as easy as a 1.9 lucas to bosch swap, but achievable by the DIY enthusiast. There's a guy doing SVO on ebay at 45ppl if you are prepared to buy 1000 litres at a time. Usually when the price of diesel comes down, the price of SVO comes down at the same time, so still good savings to be had. I blend mine with 20% misfuel (free), so a further 20% discount to be had if you do that.
