You should get your handbrake fixed then.

if I am stuck behind a persistent brake pedal pusher, I position my car so that I can see his mirrors,I turn on my headlights till he releases the pedal, and so on.

btw way why DO people insist on using indicators in a dedicated turn lane, like out of supermarket car parks, and never bother to use indicators on roundabouts????

I guess the break thing is somewhat cultural ... :D ... on our roads, it's a minority that doesn't break on the traffic light, so I guess you'd burn out your headlights over here ... :D ... I do understand the reasoning, and can agree on it that the driver behind is bothered by the more intensive red glow, but honestly, what bothers me more on the roads are drivers who don't want to switch from high to dipped beam in the middle of the night while driving towards you ...

i was always taught at a stop junction or red trafic lights you are meant ( in a manual at least ) to take it out of gear and have the hand brake on,

this is what always constituted as a stop,

as modern car brake lights are so so much brighter these days, it is not comfortable sitting behind a car at lights with there brake lights burning into your eye ball,

So you mean I should put gear on N and activate electric handbrake always at traffic lights?!!

Btw, If I remember correctly, that doesn´t help, because the handbrake activates brakelights too.

I don´t understand what you mean? My idle speed is set correctly (how can it not be on these modern HDi-engines?).

And I thought that it´s normal for a car with automatic transmission to move forward when on D and no brakes on?

Yes, If it does not hold the car it is not working correctly

Yes, you take a geared car out so why not an Automatic ?, it is basic road manners to the driver behind you. Why would you wish or not care about causing them discomfort and reduce their night vision ?

and

mine does not

When I was learning to drive my instructor taught me to use the handbrake and put the car in neutral if I felt that I was going to be stopped for more than 5 seconds. That was mainly for good manners (not dazzling the drivers behind), as well as making the car more secure (if I were hit up the back it is likely my foot would slip off the brake pedal).

Well, If you knew how much it does cost to replace hand brake cables on C5 X7 with electric hand brake, you wouldn´t use it too much. ;)

rear lights, indicator, rear fogs all on at once it won't cope and ..
It is possible to have that combination without sitting at traffic lights with your foot on the brake.

In some places we have hills, fog and junctions that you need to slow down for

and if appropriate, your lights should be used, I do not think anybody thinks otherwise.

As for cables, Lube e'm and Use e.m or Loose e'm.

Hello
I have the same problem with my c5 x7 2.0hdi 140ps 2010 model. The left rear led indicator stops working every week. When i stop the car after 1 hour works fine. Checked With my lexia and found errors like front right indicator problem, rear left indicator problem..etc for all indicator...
The connectors are all ok and no melting points.
I will attempt to make a by pass ground to the rear left light and i will let you know if the problem is still here.
Thanks for the technical ideas....
Keep the good job.
George
