I believe under the skin they were just a big Morris Minor... Possibly more the Marina's ancestor than the Morris Minor was..
They were really rather posh... I was always very fond of the Riley and Wolseley versions of the original Mini, the Hornet and Elf.

Old seasonal ad for the Wolseley! More than passes the FCF normal standards for relevant topic linkage i feel. (The bigger one is a Wolseley 6/110 and its a 2-tone!)

I never knew there was a standard Neil.... Generally the criteria is defined as 'anything goes...'NewcastleFalcon wrote:More than passes the FCF normal standards for relevant topic linkage i feel.

Never seen one with round headlights Neil...NewcastleFalcon wrote:Seeing that it is December 5th here's a picture of a pair of Renault 5's
They look rather good... Were they on the real French poverty-spec. models only?
If I was given a Hillman Minx for Christmas I'd be happy too..
Even happier if it was a V6 Activa

The pic is from this article about the history of French cars in the United StatesCitroJim wrote: Never seen one with round headlights Neil...

The Renault 5 was marketed as "Le Car" in the United States and it did indeed initially have round headlights. It even made it into some obscure US Police Department's fleet...still Regie milked it for all it worth in its ads

Re: Can you link numbers 1-24 with interesting cars?
Interesting they were sold in America and there the lights make sense as at the time they had very strict rules on headlights which is why the SM had round ones in the States..
The R5 round lights remind me of an interesting 'small' American car of some note and styling cues: the AMC Pacer.
The Wikipeda article on the AMC Pacer has a picture of a nice two-tone one from 1977

The article the Renault 5 pics came from also included this fascinating revelation about the Renault Dauphine in this 1958 US Advert...

Although it was heavily criticised I quite liked the Pacer - looks at least. Performance was reputedly dire.CitroJim wrote:Interesting they were sold in America and there the lights make sense as at the time they had very strict rules on headlights which is why the SM had round ones in the States..
