Sorry for dragging this out fellas but after checking again (late last night when the road was quiet) it seems the lift pump is priming! Do I go for the camshaft/ crankshaft sensors as Hamster posted ( where are they??)!

If its the same hdi unit as the c5 the cam sensor is at the rear centre of the upper timing belt cover

I think from memory the crankshaft sensor is in the 10 o'clock position when you look straight at the crankshaft pulley.

Bear in mind that you will only be able to check the connectors are plugged in or not. You will need to use a lexia to determine if they are working. It will give you an error code to tell you.

Where are you based? There might be a member with a lexia who would be willing to help out.

just been out to check and can't see any connectors around the cam belt area Rob?? Excuse the ignorance here but is there a way to check whether fuel is getting to the rail so that I can eliminate the pump question? as the lift pump seem to me like it's energising when the key is turned to the second position.

Whereabouts in Ayrshire? Mandrake, DHallworth and I are not a million miles away. I'd offer, but flat out up to Christmas so can't come out to it - if it was mobile I could plug it in at mine :rofl2:

The pump/sender units seem to look the same whether theres a pump in there or not, I took a couple out in the breakers and the non pump jobs appear to have a place for the pump, though comparing the electrical connectors might give a clue, I used a hammer and screwdriver to tap the locking ring around and it undid easily. I think HDI 110 motors with bosch injection have them. so plenty of potential donors out there.
