Tuning boxes any good?

Doing a 200mile trip tomorrow so will get a better feeling.

So far so good. After a week I can't the difference any more so I might disconnect it and do some timed runs over the weekend. MPG hasn't changed

2000 miles and mpg now in the low 50's (compared to mid 40's). Certainly better mpg but could be a combination of other factors (new EPG valve and heavier motorway traffic which doesn't allow for high speeds).

I'll be remapping my 2.2 173 after xmas. i can live with the economy, although an extra couple will be nice but i cant live with how sluggish it is. I appreciate its a tourer and weighs as much as a small moon but being twin turbo it should have more get up and go than it does. I had a mondeo with the 175bhp engine that was in a different league performance wise.

as an aside i'd only go with a remap from a reputable company. I've remapped every diesel ive owned as i think its a bit of a no brainer. The only plug in boxes i'd trust are the expensive ones at which point they become the same cost as a decent remp and so not cost effective in my opinion.

Are you sure the 173 2.2 is twin turbo. I thought it was the newer 200 2.0 that was twin.

it certainly is mate. the 200 is just an evolution of the engine. It single turbo in the mondeos etc.

Cheers for that. Seems like I have a twin turbo then. To be honest mine is a little slower off the mark than my Saab 1.9, but not a huge difference. I don't think I need any more from it as the torque seems pretty good .

I think the saloon will be noticeably quicker than the tourer. I actually had mine checked over as i didnt think it was right, i was lucky enough to get to drive another too so i could compare and that was the same.

Yes probably the saloon will be a little sharper, but it will be good to know how you get on with the re-map.
