Re: Elmas Xantia V6 and the joys of the countryside
Will do Jim, unless you've got next weekend free it'll be 3 weeks plus.
Just checked the sensors against the diagram. The Bitron one is really dirty, the front one is fine and the warning light one is so hidden I can't find it.
Bitron connector looks worthy of a good clean anyway. Problem is how to do it? It's one of those clips that has the metal spring clip that likes to go flying and only just in reach. I think I'll try putting a strong little magnet on it before I attempt to disconnect to prevent the inevitable. I'll try it this evening as it looks an ok job thats just accessible.
On the carpets front the rears feel dry and the fronts are drying rapidly. It's the car thats slow, the bit of noise proofing thats sponge backed is soaked and the big dehumidifier didn't fit so I put a pathetic one in. I think I'll have to remove the passenger seat and put a proper dehumidifier in or it'll not be dry for ages.
My aerial did have a booster of sorts in the base. It's basically a ring magnet in a tin around the connector. Mine was clean and dry so I just looked and left it alone. Radio seems to have better reception now but not great. There's definitely something amiss and I'm getting close.

Re: Elmas Xantia V6 and the joys of the countryside
Slight correction Jim - the brown sensor is for the Bitron however it also operates the over-temperature light above the temperature gauge as that is controlled by the bitron unit. The blue sensor is only for the needle part of the temperature gauge.CitroJim wrote:Steve, that's a useful diagram! Thanks for posting it up
In that diagram Item 10 is the brown Bitron sensor, 9 is the blue over-temperature light sensor and 11 is the green coolant temperature sensor used by the engine ECU...
That's why the temperature warning light can come on with a faulty connection to the brown sensor even though the gauge reading is normal.

Excellent! Never knew that Simon and all these years I've been under a misapprehension - Thanks for resolving thatMandrake wrote: Slight correction Jim - the brown sensor is for the Bitron however it also operates the over-temperature light above the temperature gauge as that is controlled by the bitron unit. James, apart from parkrun on Saturday morning and karate training on Sunday morning this weekend is a rare one where I'm completely free. Come up really early and join me at parkrun perhaps? An excellent way to kick off a weekend

Re: Elmas Xantia V6 and the joys of the countryside
So my pipe and clips have arrived. Potentially the clips are too wide for the lower connection so I'll order more rather than risk putting the car out of action. Do I need to depressurise the car to change the pipe or is it a low pressure one?
Interior is now dry as a bone, I cut out the wet insulation and put it into the drying room this morning. We had some big rain this evening and no further leaks were detected. I'll get some kurust or similar tomorrow and sort out the little patches of surface rust before reinstalling the carpets on Thursday or Friday.
Alasdair when is the best time over the weekend to pop over? I won't be staying for too long as I have to bring dog. He'll be happy enough sat in the car but I won't be able to hang around for too long as it's his day out too and he's planning a swim.

All day, check the forecast and let me know in the morning (early is fine if you wake up with the sun)
.....take Dog for a walk up here if you want, we are a bit "country" up our hill.

Sounds good, probably sat am, I get up at 0700 and I'll leave at 0730-0800. The forecast says that should be ok at the moment.
Kelv should love it up your way. I've not visited since I was in College and can only remember Cheddar Gorge and the view of the Tour from a pub conservatory. I definitely fancy exploring the area a bit with him, it looks like our kind of place.

Good walks up the hill from here, you can even walk over and see a big hole, the largest in England

Re: Elmas Xantia V6 and the joys of the countryside
Who wouldn't want to see the largest hole in England?
We shall definitely be exploring up the hill. If theres no swimming places we'll find somewhere on the way home. Poor Kelvs lives for the water but he's not had a proper swim since December 19th. I haven't either but the Kidney is playing up again at the moment so I'm happy on dry land for now. Not sure how he's planning on getting home though, no wet dogs in my Xantia thank you.
