And you always keep up with your mate, whether you like it or not
Given I'm about twice as wide and heavy as Jim, he'd be doing a load of energy saving if he sat on my wheel in the slipstream! The reverse is not true!
I'm potentially more aerodynamic I guess... My riding style is steady endurance, neither fast or slow but with a bit of climbing ability... I can't descend at any speed...
Out on my sportive ride, many passed me today on the flat or downhill but I passed them again as soon as we came to hills...
1614ft of elevation gain sorts the climbers out from the sprinters
Had a bit of luck with the fans. I just went out to test them quickly before bed. They now both turn on at low speed with the aircon. I think thats what is supposed to happen. Will still need to rebrush the fan I think but at least its working in this weather.
Van went in again this morning. Puncture on spare is repaired and they found no issue with rear brakes. Next step is check tyre circumferances as the van uses the abs sensors in part to calculate rear brake bias.
While I was there I booked the Xantia in for an aircon regas on saturday morning. Means another job will be deferred a week but thats not an issue.
Circumferences have tested ok. We've decided, after contacting Peugeot, that the difference between the 2 vans is likely to be the quality of the friction material. From now on we will specify Mintex brakes and pads only.
Incedently Snows Peugeot were abysmal. They said the brakes aren't performing differently between the 2 vans. They havent seen either van and they certainly are. I also asked for a quote to repair the sliding door and supplied the part number that requires replacing. They cant quote unless I have a one hour diagnostic first at £150. Needless to say they are not getting the work.
Day of deliveries today.
I now have loom tape and my special Wera mini Vortex socket for the fans which I am very impressed with, it looks perfect.
With any luck the gearbox oil will arrive in the next 2 days along with the fuel pressure reg.
Plenty to keep me busy for the weekend, plus I need to reseal the headlight and sump.
I've overdone the spending of next weeks wages already having booked an aircon regas and ordered Quadrophenia on vinyl for Friday so no car treats until the week after when it will be LHM seals, fan brushes and whatever else is at the top of the list but not done. I'm not worried for now about the pump leak or anything else as the cars not been driven since I cleaned it and probably won't be until I get the immediate list taken care of.
The immediate list doesn't look too bad now with this weekends jobs already deleted, I reckon £100 will take care of it if I use the scrap Fords relays. I know it's a bit snobbish but I don't really want Ford relays, I'll probably make it just over £100 and buy ones that meet with my approval.
Immediately
LHM Pump Seals
Alternator Belt
Starter Motor Relay Mod
Headlamp Relay Mod
Saggy Headliner
Rear Washer
Heater matrix connector
Anticipating the next 1/3 of my list I have a few questions for fellow V6 users.
Coils first, is Valeo the go to brand? Not a lot of choice or price difference but I've found Valeo, NGK and random makes so far.
My car does not misfire but the resin has cracked on the front coil. Is is likely to improve the car to fit a new pair of coils or shall I just reseal the old ones? Cost is the only put off but buying coils will only add 2-3 weeks to the project which really is naf all. I realise this may be a daft question to many but I'm a Diesel man, hence this is all new to me.
Leads second, where can I buy half decent ones, I can only find them on ebay and they all have funny names that fail to inspire confidence.
TPS next (throttle position sensor) My car exhibits the same behaviour as Mandrakes did prior to having the tps replaced. The ones I can find online are branded but it's an unfamiliar one (motox or something). Worth buying? Whats the chances Citroen can supply one?
Spark Plugs finally, Bosch right?
This is really exciting me now I'm properly able to get stuck in, this car deserves much more than I have given it for the last 6 months and it's nice to make amends.
Nothing much to say about the Van today. It did about 50 meters lugging stuff between the stores, Barn and skip effortlessly this afternoon. Just waiting to hear when it's going in for the sliding door repair and new windscreen. It needs the windows cleaning and I'm replacing part of the ply floor. Other than that it's prity good and awaiting an indicator bulb which is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I'm sort of hoping it gets sent out to work and the other one comes to live with me once it's sorted as I know the other one also has a few issues that won't get fixed otherwise. May seem a lot of effort for a pair of work mules but I like them and when they are retired (approx 2 years) I'd like to convert one into a motorhome.
