Re: Peugeot 306 hdi missfire/hesitation
just been given to diagrammes of the breather system i just have to find what one is on my car what would be the best way to find out would i have to take the tank off the car
Sounds like it's the cap that's at fault from what you say. Just replace it.
You'll probably be able to see a little pipe inside the fuel filler pipe if you look inside. That'll be the tank breather. If the hole in the cap is blocked it creates a vacuum and can't such fuel through.
I had an Orion 1.6 years ago that did this. It actually sucked the tank out of shape so much that the gauge read 1/2 full when it was empty. I only learnt about the problem when I, you guessed it, ran out of fuel one night. I'd driven 250 miles or so much slower than my normal speed but was still surprised at how little fuel I'd used. Of course, with the tank being sucked in like someone sacking a plastic bottle, the sender from the gauge was resting on the bit that had been sucked in and I didn't really have half a tank left.

Caps are supposed to be sealed these days I think. If you post up the last 8 digits of the VIN, I can look up to see what breather arrangement is fitted. I'm a bit surprised that tank breather problems can give running issues on one of these with that socking great LP pump, and without triggering the EML, but there's a new one everyday!

They may well be but a 306 HDi isn't going to be that new is it? My C5 HDi certainly has a breather in the cap.RichardW wrote:Caps are supposed to be sealed these days I think.

My last 8 numbers are 32911919

My C5 HDi has a cap like this. The little rectangle hole is the breather.
I gather these holes in the filler neck insert are something to do with the breather arrangement

Here you go:
breather:
Filling duct
Not clear where the breather is on yours Mike- but that hole in the cap looks like where the tether should be attached on the drawing in service.citroen.....

Maybe it should Richard However, if I put my lips on the cap, I can certainly blow through it. Doesn't taste great mind you..
