Im sure xud 9te units are not as high as 23:1 .. n/a non turbo yes but I was under the impression turbos were a bit lower then that.m

21.8:1 If I remember rightly from the spec sheet I had years ago.citroenxm wrote:Im sure xud 9te units are not as high as 23:1 .. n/a non turbo yes but I was under the impression turbos were a bit lower then that.m
I'd not use a standard gauge on a diesel engine. It'll simply blow it apart.

Yep, that's quite correct Paul.citroenxm wrote:Im sure xud 9te units are not as high as 23:1 .. n/a non turbo yes but I was under the impression turbos were a bit lower then that.m
It's why generally a N/A diesel starts more easily and does not need quite so much pre or post-heating.
Turbo engines are around 18:1 from memory. Petrol turbos also have a much lower compression ratio...
The cams are a bit less agressive too.
If a TD had the same cam timing and CR as an NA engine it would not take the boost for very long without potential for detonation damage and high rates of wear. Same as for a petrol turbo really...
EDIT as Mike says.
