That's a good point Simon. I've never seen a low coolant light come on in any S1 Xantia I've ever owned...Mandrake wrote: But do we have a confirmed sighting of a S1 V6 low coolant warning light working yet though ?

Re: Simon's new Xantia V6 blog
The S1 dash warning light: is it actually a Low Coolant Level indicator (dash symbol and/or Owner's Handbook), or just a general Coolant Warning indicator (that includes over-temperature) ?
What I'm wondering is whether Citroen might have deleted the Low Level dash warning from S1 Xan, but, having stock of tanks with the sensor hole there (presumably shared with other cars) might have fitted a non-functioning sensor, simply to plug the odd-shaped (? bayonet-fit) hole. Stupid idea - better and cheaper ways to do it - and the wiring is there as well. Mmm.
I'm reading this that the S2 has the previous 3-wire sensor. So what on earth happened on S1? A long-unspotted wiring fault?
Surely not.

Re: Simon's new Xantia V6 blog
Easy enough for a S1 owner to temporarily syringe some coolant out of the tank, and see what happens.

Re: Simon's new Xantia V6 blog
The plot thickens, the S1 2.1TD shows exactly the same wiring error as the ES9...
The 1.9TD and others have a three-wire sensor. Seems it's the ones using the V6/2.1TD style coolant tank have the two-wire one...
ALL S2 models, including the V6 and 21.TD have the three-wire sensor...
So, the V6 and 2.1TD sensor may be of decorative value only!

Re: Simon's new Xantia V6 blog
Just so we're clear, we're talking about the small round red dot inside the temperature gauge and just above the temperature reading. It's easy to miss it unless it's lit, but it does test light when you turn on the key. I'd call it a "coolant warning light".white exec wrote:The S1 dash warning light: is it actually a Low Coolant Level indicator (dash symbol and/or Owner's Handbook), or just a general Coolant Warning indicator (that includes over-temperature) ?
This is a dual function warning that will come on when the coolant is either low in level or too hot. (Beyond approx 115 degrees) It also causes the main STOP light to illuminate as well. (At least on a S2)
I can't think of a good reason for this whole situation except for a screw up.What I'm wondering is whether Citroen might have deleted the Low Level dash warning from S1 Xan, but, having stock of tanks with the sensor hole there (presumably shared with other cars) might have fitted a non-functioning sensor, simply to plug the odd-shaped (? bayonet-fit) hole. Not sure what you mean by "previous" - all I know is the sensor part number is the same on S1 and S2 V6, and they look the same. I've had the one out of my S2 back when I did the expansion bottle there and it looked exactly the same. (And did work)I'm reading this that the S2 has the previous 3-wire sensor. So what on earth happened on S1? A long-unspotted wiring fault?
Surely not.
Still baffled. Somebody needs to test theirs to confirm this lunacy.

It's there to keep the water in Jim!CitroJim wrote:So, the V6 and 2.1TD sensor may be of decorative value only!

And if there is a sensor there they couldn't well have no plug connected to it least they rouse suspicions.

Re: Simon's new Xantia V6 blog
In a S1 owner's handbook, what is the stated function of the red dot warning light?
By "previous", I was thinking of XM (uses same 3-connection sensor and wiring as S2 Xan, but Warning arrives at dash as text matrix display as well as STOP light).
You could well be right about a need to keep the water in a tank with a funny-shaped hole, and about the need not to have a conspicuously unconnected sensor. But WTF (that's a technical term) do this in the first place?
Need to know the Book description of that S1 dash light. It's the only place that Citroen describe what all the dash controls are in any detail. Unless it comes, of course, under the get-out "....Depending on Model...."

My handbook is missing so I can't be of any help there I'm afraid.

Re: Simon's new Xantia V6 blog
Is that page indicating that the warning is one of the square lights with symbols on them ? Because the warning light I'm referring to is the round red dot inside the temperature gauge, which as far as I remember doesn't have any symbol or text on or beside it.

Re: Simon's new Xantia V6 blog
For what it's worth, I've just gone back through a heap of XM wiring diagrams.
The 3-wire sensor, all three wired, was used on all versions of XM from 1994 (and probably before) until the end, in both LHD and RHD versions.
Found no instance of a 2-wire installation.
