Erm, no I don't! (that is my nickname when I play pool, because when I break off the pack explodes!).
Sounds like one of the guys I used to play pool with. You used to be able to tell when he'd just started a game from the percussive crack that was audible even from well outside the pub!

That is a shame, as sadly, my budget doesn't yet stretch to trailering. I hope it goes to a decent home!

Just been reading your thread about the brakes, Simon.

On the XM, under the scuttle panel on the drivers side is a brake doseur valve which when seized causes the front brakes to bind. I had it before on one of my XM's. After giving it a good going over with some Plusgas and working it back and forth it freed off nicely and never gave me any problems again.

I'm just thinking that it would be unusual for you to have 2 collapsed brake pipes causing problems at the same time so am wondering if the Xantia could have the same valve.

David.

The Xantia does not have the same doseur linkage as the RHD XM. The pedal pushes more or less directly on the doseur, as it does on a LHD XM.

Hi,

I'm not really interested in breaking the car on my driveway I'm afraid unless it's something very trivial that doesn't prevent the car from being moved/driven.

I sometimes need to park the car out on the road to make room for other things, as soon as the MOT / tax etc runs out (or if I SORN it) I won't be able to do that and it will be stuck on my driveway until it's gone. It's not possible to get a truck through my gate to pick up a non-driving car (the gate is barely wider than the wing mirrors and the driveway doesn't align with the gate) so I can't disable it and to be honest stripping the car on my driveway would see me permanently in the doghouse!

Hi David,

While the doseur could theoretically cause an issue with binding, as xantia_v6 notes there's no linkage on a RHD Xantia the brake pedal pushes directly on the doseur valve.

Also it wasn't doing this until after I had everything apart to fit new discs (and I have since removed and refitted one caliper a second time and checked everything is mechanically free) so it would be strange for the doseur valve to suddenly have an issue, but much more reasonable that 27 year old original brake hoses could not stand up to the flexing the experienced while the caliper was removed and collapsed.

I understand....however I was after a few bits that would not stop it driving (but would sink the suspension)....so , if by chance (it would be sad) the car does have to be tracked away for scrap please remember this before it goes.

Sadly, being down south there is no chance of me taking it whole.

It would be a terrible shame if someone came to collect it, drove it a few miles then found the brakes had a fault and had to use their nationwide recovery service to get home.

I don't want to jinx it but I may have some news regarding the seizing brakes tomorrow thanks to the services of a small blow torch and a pair of mole grips...
