I think the reason the fitters was glad was because it was virtually impossible to remove the scuttle without breaking it.

I did a Google search for replacement Xantia scuttles, but I got no meaningful results. However, I tried again and got this;

I hope that helps.

Don't quote me on this, but as the screen is now a write-off, would it be possible to get one of these in between the screen and scuttle to cut most of the bond ?

Are the scuttles all the same on RHD Xantia's ? A bit weird how that image shows 4 holes for wiper arms...I guess it's just a generic image.

It may well be that the scuttle is/was standard, with plugs to fill the unrequired holes. Mind you, it is probably a generic image, as you suggest.

No plugs filling unneeded holes on my scuttle. Just a generic image I think.

This is one of these sites where you request a part and it goes out to a network of suppliers and breakers to see if anyone has one, if they do they contact you.

Mind you, I used a site like this to find a second hand gearbox for the Leaf and had a response the same day! I've put a request through so I'll see if anyone comes back with anything.

I imagine good Xantia scuttles are like hens teeth now. :?

Sorry Simon I thought that was a 'bead' of sealant but maybe it's the gap between scuttle and your sellotape ....

You may be surprised with the relief if you just let it go Simon. It is probably providing the opposite of any joy of ownership at the moment, and none in the foreseeable.

You are more than capable of resurrecting it from its current state, but do you want to do it? I certainly wouldn't fancy it, and then there is the monetary drain of shelling out for MOT, Tax Insurance, and fuel.

Hard to make that decision, but letting it go, rather than having it hanging around, niggling for your attention, like i say could be a relief.

It would be sad to see the car scrapped for that.

I think that the value of BXs, XMs and Xantias is currently rising, and you may find that someone will take it on as a project. It depends on the state of the sills and rear arches.

If you do decide to scrap it, can you give us the chance to acquire a few parts? I don't imagine that it will affect the scrap value much.

I cut the screen from a Volvo 265 in a scrapyard and replaced my cracked one with it, took a while but worked well and cost only £25.

May be worth considering. Some scrapyards used to remove them and store them safely indoors, you may be lucky and find one, and a scuttle but I imagine they don't take as much care of that as the screen.

Well I wouldn't have just scrapped it. I would have offered it to anyone who wanted to take it first.

Rear door sills are fine as far as I know, rear arches are pretty bad with a lot of rust blistering showing through the paint above both rear wheels. A shame, because that has appeared out of nowhere in the last two years and seems to have accelerated with a big drop in use of the car since I bought the Leaf.

Rust is finally catching up with the car unfortunately, including some bubbling on the front wheel arches.

I'm at a point where I have nothing to lose so I'm going to press forward with the heater matrix repair for now as I have all the parts and maybe see if I can claim the windscreen on insurance later.

The scuttle has always been broken completely into two halves since I've had the car - I'm about half way through cutting the near side piece off so I'll keep going and see if I can remove it without any more cracks in the glass, or the scuttle for that matter...

I'm surprised a Volvo scuttle would fit ? I'm guessing it was something of a bodge that wasn't very pleasing on the eye....

Oh you're saying a Volvo 25 windscreen glass fits the Xantia, rather than the scuttle ?? That's a bit of a fluke or was it a standard size glass ?

Autoglass (or at least their automated checker on their website) say they can get the windscreen, it's a scuttle that I'm more worried about as it may be impossible to get a watertight seal with so many cracks in the old one - remember I was chasing a rain water leak before all this happened as well as the heater matrix leak.

Ideally I would find a scuttle still in a single piece from a scrappy to get a good result in any repair of the windscreen...

A trifle harsh that comment Simon!! I read that post to say that Steve had a Volvo 265 and replaced it's scuttle from the scrappy, giving you an idea! :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

No, it was a 265 screen I removed from a car in a scrapyard, to replace the cracked one in my 265.
It did take a while to cut it out but replacement was easy if time consuming.
But not Volvo to Citroen unfortunately.
I thought that it might be something for you to consider if there is a Xantia in a local scrapyard, or if you can find one 'off the shelf'.
