So that pretty much evaporates any thoughts I had of trying to do this job myself. Time to swallow my pride and let the experts do it!
Not sure you need EV experts to do the job Simon. There are probably competent mechanics within few miles of your home who, with the equipment lifts hoists gearbox supports etc would be more than capable of removing driveshafts/mountings, and those 6 bolts that actually hold the gearbox on, and putting a replacement one in its place, and giving you the one they have taken off for examination.
I can see that Cleevely tick the "confidence" box, just on the evidence that they knew the box could be removed without dismantling the "stack" of Charger/inverter and have quoted a very reasonable price for the job. For you a trusted repair with some warranty for their work, and hopefully a definitive cause identified.
If I was Cleevelys, I would be very interested in doing the job. They have had a lot of good publicity in EV circles, Fully Charged regularly visit, and the issue of EV "repair" expertese, and training (or the lack of it) is very topical for a bit of further publicity. If they want to grow and expand into a market not really catered for by the current maintenance and repair industry your particular repair can only contribute to being a "go-to" company for repair work in on EV's, on a UK wide basis.
Yes if I was Cleveleys I would make your job happen, I would video the process and the story, use it as publicity and marketing through their own web presence/you tube/social media/ev forums/fully charged.
Again hope whatever you decide to do works out well. Its an interesting story only half told so far. Fixing and getting back on the road is top priority, but revealing exactly the cause of the problem which others may face solving is intriguing too.
