I actually only phoned to book the MOT today, I was going to phone on Saturday but forgot as I was busy doing stuff on the car.

I only picked up the car on Thursday guys! I took Friday off work and did all the work on Friday and Saturday that I wanted to do before the MOT and before the old (read: parts) car goes, then on Sunday it rained all day. So I've done nothing but check the car over and do little jobs to get it all ready...

Once wheel balance, spheres and a normal service is done I honestly think that's all the work it will need doing until next MOT time. Not counting the panel scrape repairs, which will need to wait until next spring probably as house hunting is a priority right now - I'm stretching my luck with SWMBO as it is putting on a full set of spheres so soon and possibly needing a couple of tyres... don't want to push my luck even further.

The main thing is she does really like the car though. :) It still has a new car smell and feel to it inside and the leather is soft and like new. And despite the scratches on the rear left door and the rear bumper it does still look very smart on the outside too. It's clearly been waxed and polished recently as the rain sits in nice beads on the paint. :) The dark Silex Grey is much nicer than Quartz Grey ("Silver") too IMHO.

Make sure you Zymol that leather at least twice a year and then gliptone it! after you gliptone give it a day or two to really soak in in the sun! and dont forget door cards as well as headrests! you'll be surprised how much dirt those headrests hide :(

I don't think that Gliptone and Alacantra door panels would be a good combination ;-)

Check the date codes on the tyres, My 50000 mile XM still had the factory tyres on the back, but they were very hard, had flat spots, and the rubber started to shred after a few months of driving.

No, The mk1 Xantia exclusive has alacantra door cards with 'wood' trim. They also have extra stitching which makes them different to any other version.

As far as I know it was only XM Exclusives that had leather door cards.. Never seen any Xantia so equipped which is a shame as the XM ones are lovely 8-)

Silly drop box. What door cards are dark on the xantia then as that's what I thought they would have. Such a shame but I guess it helps keep the heat down in the car in the summers..

Yes, it flew through! :-D

One advisory for a small exhaust leak in the pipe just in front of the rear muffler - I had noticed a bit of flaky rust there and a slight blow, so that will need welding at some point. As the exhaust system is OEM and the rest of it is in excellent condition I don't want any of it being replaced, so I'll have to find someone willing to weld it instead of just an exhaust parts swapper.

I'm particularly chuffed with the emissions result - Lambda 1.01, HC 4 ppm, Fast CO 0.00%, Natural CO 0.00% ! Some difference from the last MOT on the other car that was getting an HC of 40 ppm and CO of 0.27% and 0.49%.

I notice the MOT limits have dropped since last year too (or are different for the different model year) as the limits are now 0.2% for fast and 0.3% for idle - which would have failed the other car...
