A pair of shoe dryers?

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: Whatsthisthen?
This is a bit of a leftfield one.
Whilst browsing a collection of photos at the Metric Imperial War Museum (https://www.iwm.org.uk/history/brixmis- ... e-cold-war), I came across an unusual photo.
The photo archive in question is almost exclusively to do with military related stuff in 1990 in East Germany, and most of the photos fit the bill. Occasioanlly there are photos from towns and cities and you see the ever present drab and wheezing Trabants and Wartburgs, with the occasional Lada thrown in for those in charge. This photo is unusual as I don't think that's either a Trabby, Wartburg, or Lada
So what is it ? Bear in mind that 'western' cars where very much a rarity and most people wouldn't want to stand out even if they could manage to own one.
Is it a Vauxhall Nova ?

Re: Whatsthisthen?
My initial thought on first view, prompted by the white blocks either side of the number plate, is Renault 5?
This sort of thing:

Re: Whatsthisthen?
https://www.renault4.co.uk/r5-debug.htm I reckon Mick's right but he went for the 'super groovy' version.

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Re: Whatsthisthen?
I don't think the gap between the number plate and bumper is right for an R5 ??

Re: Whatsthisthen?
Yes I'm inclined to agree there Robin, it looks more like a Nova but it must be an Opel version as the rear wiper is parked the wrong way for a RHD version. The other possibility that struck me was a MK1 Fiesta but I think I favour the Nova over that!

Re: Whatsthisthen?
Good point, the wiper blade looks like it's fitted higher on the boot as well.

Re: Whatsthisthen?
No vents on the rear pillars so not a Renault 5

Re: Whatsthisthen?
After Neil's pic I'm sticking with the Nova approach!

Re: Whatsthisthen?
It does seem just a teensy-weensy bit too squat for a Nova though

Re: Whatsthisthen?
What western company would be most active there, possibly FIAT.
How about a first generation Fiat Panda, worth considering.

Re: Whatsthisthen?
That's interesting Neil, I thought about an early Panda but the picture that I found had the number plate in the bumper so I discounted it!

Aha ! Something like a Yugo 45 possibly ? Basically a non-Fiat Panda.
