That's what happens when I post from the phone! I hadn't seen the badge on my little screen or I'd have masked it! So in fact you have already got the whole answer when I only had this part;
Well done and I've learned to check on PC before setting future puzzles!!

Re: Whatsthisthen?
I do like a whatsthisthen on a car or other vehicle, and the thread is mostly filled with such things, but an occasional delve into something different may widen the audience, and joiners in.
Have you ever spotted something on a drive out and thought I'm going to stop and take a picture of that. Me I do it all the time and yesterday was no exception. While in my youth a field of bright yellow oil-seed rape was a sight never seen, it now adds vivid colour to the fields and the landscape. Similarly you would never see Sunflowers, or Sweet Corn in the fields.
What caught my eye was this field which was a sea of blue flowers, and 2 or three others planted similarly.
So an agricultural and horticultural and gardening whats this then Sting has his fields of gold...Northumn=berland has its fields of blue/lilac/purple depending on the light and your own and the camera's perception.

Re: Whatsthisthen?
Probably an Echium crop - might be Echium vulgaris - better known as Viper's Bugloss. The seeds contain various oils which can be extracted, and it's also grown to provide a break from growing other - more common - crops to allow for better pest, weed and soil management.

Phacelia, I'm told the farmers use it as a weed suppressant but not sure if it's got any other uses.

Nothing first hand gibbo but wiki gives us the gen! aka Fiddleneck in the UK.
In summary
Neilhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phacelia_tanacetifolia
In agriculture as a cover crop, a bee plant, an attractant for other beneficial insects, as a green manure and an ornamental plant. It is planted in vineyards and alongside crop fields, where it is valued for its long, coiling inflorescences of nectar-rich flowers which open in sequence, giving a long flowering period. It is a good insectary plant, attracting pollinators such as bumblebees and honey bees.

Re: Whatsthisthen?
As a side issue, for any gardeners here, I went on the Mr Fothergill website to purchase a few seeds and they are all reduced to a quid a pack. Got twenty quids worth
Not everything available, a lot of sold out varieties but enough for me to fill a dozen gardens (over and above the several kilo's of seeds I have harvested myself.
Been a crap season though, lots of flowers only just starting to grow

Re: Whatsthisthen?
My problem is I've been under the weather for over a month and my garden's turned into a jungle, got the strimmer out for half an hour a couple of times this week but progress is very slow and that half hour is enough.

Re: Whatsthisthen?
I see around here they're growing fields of flowers especially to be used as confetti

Re: Whatsthisthen?
The confetti field would definitely have got the falcon shutter click. Not far from yourself and Mick, but maybe past it’s best now

It's actually just SSE of Stansted Airport and we did pass by in May but there wasn't too much to see then. We may take another ride out next weekend but no promises!!
