Re: Whatsthisthen?
I see this one almost every morning during my runs...
No idea what it is... It's been sitting on the drive under a cover for years, never seen it uncovered...
I took several guesses at the registration plate but DVLA shows no records...
The other day the wind lifted the cover a little and gave me a good look at the plate but still no records of it so far as I can find..
Photos are poor as I have to be very discreet when taking pictures in this area of town...
I'd love to know what it is

Re: Whatsthisthen?
I confirmed an ID of a clan crusader recently, by just asking....to be fair though I did know the gentleman and that made it a bit easier. If you take off your camouflage gear, and unblacken your face, and knock on the door in the daylight I'm sure you will get a favourable response....possibly...then again....CitroJim wrote: 16 Mar 2021, 09:34 Photos are poor as I have to be very discreet when taking pictures in this area of town...

My first guess would be statistically a reasonable one A MGB Roadster, but not exotically exciting

The shape of the grill suggests Aston Martin.

Re: Whatsthisthen?
I did think that straight way but think the location and its state would probably count against that...I would expect an Aston to be in a lock-up at least

Re: Whatsthisthen?
It's quite safe in this area of town as it's a rather upmarket locality

Re: Whatsthisthen?
Faffed about with a slight enhancement. As you say Jim no DVLA record of the Reg 1972 plate but was it new in 1972?
GJU was issued on an "L" plate from November 1972. So it was first reg Nov/Dec 1972 and the JU is Leicestershire

Re: Whatsthisthen?
All I have so far is that it was first registered in November 1972. Assuming it is on the original plate. I agree with Eric re the shape of the grill, but there was also another smaller make that I can't quite bring to mind with a similar shape. Possible a daimler dart or an ac ace or maybe a TR3/4? Food for thought perhaps!

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: Whatsthisthen?
On a lateral thinking tack, perhaps the original dealer in Leicestershire had a block of regno's for new cars.
We know GJU232L has disappeared from the record but what about the reg no's round about GJU232L
Well havent come across this make for a while GJU233L is a 123cc CZ Motorcycle
CZ OTHER
Registration number: GJU233L
Body type: Motorcycle
Colour: Black And Red
Date of first registration: November 1972
and GJU229L is a Volvo Truck!
VOLVO TRUCKS FL FL408
Registration number: GJU229L
Body type: Tipper
Colour: Green And Red
Date of first registration: November 1972
Yes back to the drawing board!

Re: Whatsthisthen?
Similarly looking at 1972 grills has yielded the aforementioned MGB, the Volvo P1800 and very little else so far! We march on!

Re: Whatsthisthen?
I think that volvo is a good shout Mick. Almost simultaneously On the back of the Volvo truck, I had a look at classiccarcatalogue for 1972 and this does have some characteristics of the undercover car.mickthemaverick wrote: 16 Mar 2021, 11:01 Similarly looking at 1972 grills has yielded the aforementioned MGB, the Volvo P1800 and very little else so far!
