Before I leap in with my first attempt off the top of my head, you would expect me to know the bloke on the left, and unless he has a very good doppelgänger, I do know who he is. But is he the leading star? Don't know the name of the programme, but that'll not stop me from having a go :-D

Look like I'm too late, but Rodney wouldnt be the leading star of Z-Cars.

Stratford Johns could take that accolade! If indeed Bobins TOH for the programme is right. Then again could be someting else possibly of a more sci-fi nature.

Ok a guiding line or two with an aside. It is indeed Rodney Bewes in the picture but not from Z-Cars! Also he is playing a part but not the star so no correct answers so far!! :-D

As an interesting aside I wouldn't think of Stratford Johns as the leading star in Z-Cars. For me that role would go to James Ellis who played Bert Lynch rising from PC to Inspector during the run of the programme. While Stratford Johns was the boss ably aided by Frank Windsor as John Watt I doubt if either of them had as many appearances as James Ellis!! :-D

Heres my thought process.

Yes that is Rodney Bewes, but even in the Likely Lads he shared star billing with James Bolam so I think it unlikely that prior to that he was the leading star in our whatsthisthen? programme.

I see that what you have is a photograph of your monitor/TV I presume. So unless it is currently on mainstream live TV or I player and other such things, I suspect it may be from your store of personal favourites and box sets, which you have mentioned some shows you have in store on the FCF.

Now I did think the girls "outfit" is a bit sci-fi-ey , or maybe even spy-ey, sort of thing that could be incorporated in the Saint/Avengers/Dr Who/Quatermass/Triffids/Blakes 7/or some other British Sci-fi thing.

It is in Black and White, and I woud suspect pre original likely lads.

So taking all that into account I am going to have a wild guess at

Patrick McGoohan and "The Prisoner"

I like the thinking pattern which has some merit. However I generally don't have Sci fi and it isn't the Prisoner or Patrick!
ps or Doomwatch Steve!

I am still in TOH mode with a minor amount of fishing from our questionmaster so I'll not look at Chris' link to wiki.

I thought Bobins "Evening All" was a decent shout because I have a vague recollection that DODG may have been one of the sets you mentioned.

So what sort of things were on in the 60's police/detectives/crime/spy/doctors pretty much the same as now :-D

Sci-fi is conveniently out of the way. Then there is the corporate/business drama's and you do like the Brothers/Howards Way etc. So there was a thing called "The Troubleshooters" but I sort of think that was in colour and a bit later that our whatsthisthen programme.

Still thinking.
