Broke my duck, got to Kelso before the stovies sold out today...perfect addition to the in-car picnic at the charging point :-D . Lovely display of colourful crocus on the roadside grass as you come into the town.

Stovies sold out today even though we arrived earlier than normal. Kelso is a regular stop-off of ours, and have been there in all weathers, but as far as a beautiful spring day goes today just about topped the lot. Gorgeous and a beautiful time of year. No stovies but todays special, banana and peanut butter gelato from Becattelli Artisan Gelato

Durham is a really nice place to stop off at, and a place I hold a lot of affection for.

Today it was a City of Contrasts. First if you know it you can find a bit of free parking really pretty close to the centre, if not, unlikely.

Then what a disaster they have created down the North Road approach to the centre. The bus station is being redeveloped. It was a diesel fume fest before, but now temporarily they have chosen to use the length of North Road as the bus station, bus after bus lining the street idling away filling the place with fumes. Added to that the pavement busy with passengers a goodly percentage of which were smoking or vaping.

Over the other side of the road the cinema of my youth the Essoldo in a state of disrepair with decent sized shrubs growing out of the roof.

Hold your breath though and slip down to the right of Framwellgate Bridge and you enter a very different Durham gorgeous riverside walks round the loop of the Wear around the Cathedral and Castle and its steeply wooded banks.

We used to spend a lot of time in Durham but I find now that it is a bit of a nightmare to negotiate.
That said the only recent visits have been to transport grandson to and from uni and his digs, and my daughter to and from hospital.
Not the usual tourist destinations.

Bamburgh features on the TV pretty regularly with good cause you couldn't design a more dramatic castle, with a cricket field sitting beneath it on the village side, the village is on a gentle hill, so the castle looms over and fills the field of view, the beaces and dunes and the cold North Sea are just natural wonders.

If you have a camera the shutter gets clicked.

The walk barefoot along the beach on Friday was into the teeth of a stiff breeze blowing the dry fine sand up into wispy clouds flowing across the wet sand. Here's a few shutter clicks

That's this Saturday! Elie Fife

If you happen to be in the area worth taking some pics

Totally unnecessarily with irrelevant soundtrack I would mute it

Was there yesterday having a meal upstairs in the Ship. It will be packed to the gunwhales tomorrow! Pics of me and my wife celebrating our sapphire anniversary would be a poor substitute. Maybe next time.

Anybody notice the oddity in this picture from the Elie Sailing Clubhouse?

Beautiful weather at Perth Races today. We had a trackside table and came away with 3 winners and 2 places so it only cost us £50 for the two of us all in.

I think I came across this in meanderings following on from the lighthouse at Morecambe,

No first hand knowledge of whether it is or not a nice place to stop off at, but it certainly has a dramatic location, and one of these odd places that those with a surplus of pocket money seek out for an unusual place to stay a la "My unique B&B" which is a decent enough watch on the telly.

I remember when it was all going on - quite a bit about it on the local news at the time. Belle Tout also featured Tom Baker's bleached buttocks - but that's another story
