Hello Barry from Xsaras4ever and welcome to the Forum. Its a great bunch of people here - very helpful - and we are sure you will get that Evasion sorted.

Is there any chance it is old diesel which has emulsified and won't ignite ?

Modern diesels have a lot of additives and if left the fuel breaks down in a way in which good old fashioned diesel did not.

Get about a litre of it and smell it.

Try to open the fuel line near the hand primer and pump out a litre.

If it smells like gloss paint then its spent.

We are sure you have seen on the forum that we are dabbling into the electronic side of things, but we have a suspicion that your problem is good old fashioned mechanical.

If the car ran before it was stored, then it should run again.

You say diesel is getting to the injectors - thats most (not all) of the electronics sorted then.

Also , have you checked the glowplugs - take them out and use the battery to test them. Negative jumplead on the body of the glowplug and positive jumplead on the threaded electrical connection. They should glow red fairly quickly.

Also, with someone trying to start the engine, try some Start Pilote into the airbox, or even after, as close to the intake as possible.

If the engine stutters to start then you are onto a good thing - then maybe fresh diesel will do the trick.
Don't overdo the Start Pilote though - the engine will make a horrible clatter.

Finally, throw as much battery power as possible to it. If its been idle a while then not all the parts are lubricated as they should be and they will retard the turnover a bit. Have its own battery fully charged and connect another car with jumpleads too.

Good Luck and keep us up to date.

Thanks for the welcome.The diesel is well over 3 years old and does smell like gloss paint so I've drained the tank (40 ltrs.) blown the fuel lines from the tank to the filter and put a new fuel filter in (which I hope I don't have to do for a long time what a pig getting the top back on the fuel filter housing!!! and have now pumped fuel back through the system.I've put the battery on charge tonight and I try and fire her up in the morning. Just possible you've gummed up the injectors with crud from the old diesel.
Modern diesel fuel is much more prone to growing a slimy black organism, officially called "diesel bug", at the point where any water in the system meets diesel. This stuff can completely block pipes, filters, pumps, or injectors, if left to grow unchecked.
It rarely ever gets to that stage in a car, because the fuel is constantly agitated and water is filtered out and removed in the course of routine servicing, taking any black goop with it, but on a car that's been standing for years???
Worth checking, surely!
But yes, I reckon it's Lexia time.

Update on this problem :- just had a mechanic round plugged his computer in came straight up with immobliser problem,he has not got a Lexia but another piece of kit which won't reprogram the key and suggests I go to a main dealer and have it re-coded, but I was wondering can you do this with a Lexia?

It can only be done with a Lexia. What you will need is the security card provided with the card, and ALL the keys. The card is required because it has a 4 digit code that allows either access to the relevant menu, or for the programming to take place (I don't know which, as I have not had to do it myself). Any key that is not 'introduced' to the car will be ignored, even if it had worked in the past, hence why all keys are needed. If you use the following link you will find forum members who have Lexias and are willing to help out;

You can still get the code from a Citroen dealer - they will usually charge for it though. Around 15 quid in the UK.

That should not be a problem. I don't know about France, but in the UK all you need to do is to prove ownership of the vehicle, possibly pay a fee (about £10), and they let you know the code.

You might also want to try contacting The Birdman. He also seems to be able to get the code, and is probably cheaper than a dealership;

Hi

I too await his reply, but since his profile reports he hasn't visited the forum since February, we might have a long wait!
Anybody know how he's able to procure confidential information such as this?
If we know that, we might be able to find someone else with similar abilities... or not?

It is 4 digits, of numbers and letters. An example could read A1B2.
