A plug in box, available from plenty of places. The basic ones trick the ECU into upping the fuel pressure and increasing power. Work well for the money.

John in North Wales , you're ideally placed to visit citroenxm... he's in Anglesey.. a wealth of knowlegde about Xantia.. tuning box around £100 is a little box which basically remaps the engine computer, (Google tuning box) usually giving you about 20 more bhp and a few more mpg.. I've had one on for 275K on the 110... well worth it .. I wish I had got an engine remap though as I don't need the power and would have prefered slightly more economy.. A K&N air filter is a good idea and will save you money in the long run if you're going to keep the car they're about £40.
You've got another 120K at least on your estate.. its a good buy. Welcome to the club.

I like the sound of another 120 000 miles at least. I prefer to stick with the devil I know.
I'll look into those tuning tips, comparing the ECU/engine remap - not yet knowing the difference. Nice to have such options.
Thanks for the welcome! Great to be on the hdi club, and hope to meet up this year.

Looks reasonable John. I note that the rear wiper is stuck.... I can supply a working one - albeit that it doesn't do intermittent anymore, but it does wipe OK!!

change the signature... Gosh no matter what you imagine, there's always more to taking over a car!

Didn't realise the rear wiper did intermittent Richard, on an LX anyway. I was going to take the wiper arm off my old xantia estate, thanks for offer.
Actually I'm on the train now en route to pick her up. Funny, it's kind of moving , like a life-changing appointment.

While our beloved Green Lady - '96 1.9TD estate has been off the road (for a lot longer than planned), our 'runabout' has been a '98 2.1VSX estate that now done something over 195,000 miles. The 2.1 hasn't been noticeably more frugal, probably because I use the extra power and torque though I never rev it much over 3,500. At close to 200K, the engine and gearbox seem good for another 100K - it uses little oil and doesn't smoke, a bit of oil mist weeps from the rubber inlet manifold joiners but I'm told they all do unless the joiners are replaced every few years. I shall miss the extra 20 bhp and torque though the 1.9TD develops its peak power and torque lower down in the range.

Hopefully the Green Lady (only 113,000 miles) will soon be back on the road before the VSX falls completely to bits around the engine and transmission. Anyone in need of a 2.1TD lump in a few weeks? :(

This may be helpful.
I've done the mod on the rear wiper motor.i.e. dissassembly and regreasing about a year ago.. About 4 weeks ago the wiper stuck again.. so i took it apart again .. to find all in order.. it was the lack of lubrication in the spline that had caused it to stick.. a little oil down the spline and all is well.. added to my service items. Its worth a try before having to take the motor off?

NOPE its DEFO an LX, NOT an SX. The difference's?? ONLY the passenger mirror is electric, drivers is manual. (SX Both electric).. the seats are velour, and NOT the half sude trim (SX have half sude and central arm rest too) and the wipers have NO Auto option, also an SX item, and most likely no CD changer either.

Yep it's an LX by electric windows, velour, arm rest, drivers mirror; but it says SX on the tailgate. Says LX on the Log Book (it's on my possession now). Weird - tailgate looks original.

I tried the spline lubrication tip , with retaining nuts and collars off, and it did the trick!

Interestingly the door key works on passenger side without a hitch, but struggles to work, with jiggling, on drivers door: this goes contra to suggestions I read elsewhere, where its said its the tip of the key blade that's worn. So, may be a combination of lock barrel and blade.

Thing I must sort immediately is a stiff accelerator - most likely the cable.
I'll do the rear height corrector next week, when my children are not with me.

Glad that worked John... saves a A LOT of hassle getting the old motor off and apart and then trying to reseal the water seal.

You'll probably need some of this stuff John if the seal has been disturbed
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MASTIC-SEALIN ... _976wt_916" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I was never able to reseal it properly till i stripped the old stuff off and reapplied the mastic strip.
