Well it failed on something else! One of the rear brake pipes is rotten. One from the K piece to the nearside brake.

That's all it failed on. Due to health reasons I can't DIY it and I'm not really prepared to try and get it sorted by a garage/pay a load/trail about within 10 days to save the retest fee before I have more surgery on my nose and head in 12 days which will prevent me doing much with it for six weeks. I only found out about the surgery yesterday.

So, if you want a V6 Xantia that needs an MOT but only needs a brake pipe, has a great history with tax til end of Sept.... or if you need any parts :-)

I'm going to sound like young Jimmy/non-Alistair here; years ago I read Frank Zappa's autobiography - as the child of underinformed migrant peasants in NY, they took him (with his allergic rhinitis) to a "doctor" who treated it by stuffing radium pellets into his sinus cavities. No bloody wonder the poor fellow died of internal cancer.

You're hopefully getting a more enlightened medico digging holes in your face.

Yeah, they can't work out why it's not healing inside so they want another look. The scans show the physical side of the op was perfect. The crippling headaches now look like they are caused by nerve damage.
The annoying part is the bit below my eyes is the part that hasn't healed internally, yet the bit above my eyes which has healed is the painful bit. 3 months of antibiotics, steroids, buprenorphine and dihydrocodiene haven't helped. Not happy.

I agree, it is a nice looking car (and nice to drive, as well). My first go in a V6, and an automatic. If it wasn't for the problem in my shoulders I would be more than willing to help (and I am still willing if I can do anything, even if it were to just make the tea!).

It is Malcolm, but I have nowhere to store it and need legal transport. Nowhere round here can fit it in within the 10 days retest time and I'm not wanting to trail all over the place - the only days I could possibly do it are Wednesday this week or Monday next week, otherwise it's another £40 for a retest I don't want to spend.

I hasten to add, I expected a 16 year old car to fail, but perhaps stupidly didn't expect it to fail on one of the few things I can't DIY!

Come on Mike, you cannot let it die for the sake of a £12 pipe. Especially as Malcolm wants to keep her alive! You have got enough time to get it done and through a retest.
