I didn't know Rabbie Burns had stayed in Tweedsmuir. It is remote, but sometimes that is what people want. My grandfather was fairly nearby, but in an area that was even more remote. Mind you, he wasn't the sort of person who like being around a lot of people, he preferred solitude. If you use Google Earth, go to Tweedsmuir, and then go ENE over the first hill, you will (when you zoom in) find the house (near to a field) he used to live in (with my step grandmother, the artist Rosalie Loveday).

if I buy a battery, would I go for the highest numbers of ah and cca? is 50 ah much better than 40 and is 540 cca much better than 440? Electric things are black magic to me :rofl2:

Perhaps this was typical of works built at that time. When the Derwent Reservoirs were built in the Peak District, to supply water to Manchester, they did the same thing, constructing a railway of a few miles (IIRC), to transport materials and workers. Parts of the foundations of the temporary village built alongside the dam site for the workers are still just discernible. No sign of the railway, but part of the route's under water. Expect they recovered the metalwork.

The upper Derwent reservoir has 2 towers in the dam's structure, and is one reason why it was selected for practice runs prior to the Dambusters raids. When you see the layout and the steeply sloping valley sides, you wonder how they managed to fly the Lancasters into the valley, turn and get down to 50 feet. Mind you, the trees on the valley sides have grown a bit since then, making it seem a bit more enclosed.

Oh :( back on topic are we? :-D

Yes, 540 CCA will be better than 440, but obviously costs a little more. Make sure any higher spec battery fits the space you have available, with the terminals in the correct orientation. Sometimes there are several CCA options even within the same physical size battery, the differences being internal (eg plates size)

But all else being equal (e.g. the weight of lead in the battery) a lower capacity battery will have a longer life, as the thicker plates take longer to disintegrate.

My electrics knowledge isn't enough to agree/disagree, but in terms of the battery in the car, I'd always expect a higher AmpHr & CCA battery to last longer in a vehicle, because it will take longer for the CCA to drop to the minimum the car needs to start.

Sorry to hear of the C2s issue, its far from a rare problem with the sensodrive, especially early ones which the C2 has. The battery could well be the cause although I'm not sure I would bet on it. Have you tested the battery?

I went out to a C2 with my Lexia last summer (it was stuck on the centre of a roundabout) which had the same symptoms apart from it had developed the problem while being driven. It was stuck in first gear and no amount of playing with the Lexia would sort it. The gear actuator could be heard at times but it was not doing anything. In the end that car had a replacement actuator (there are two) which cured it, although total repairs at a Citroen specialist amounted to the cars worth.

Hope its something simple, the battery. :)

I took the battery out of the freelander and stuck it in the c2, they are the exact same size and pole positions foot on brake, ignition on, gearbox gave a couple of clicks, display changed to N, turned key and it goes. Went for a wee run, came back to swap battery back into the landie, and dropped the blooming thing and cracked it. I AM A NUMPTIE!!!!!!! Whacked the c2 battery into the landie and its starts ok, but it was warmed up. £ 39.99 for a battery from a local supplier and c2 working just fine. So now an iffy battery in the landie, but at least it can bump start.

While I was out I nipped over to Whitehills and got some fresh haddies. Haddock in cheese sauce, baby potatoes, and garden peas for tea then. Yum.

You can all go off topic now as much as you wish  :rofl2: :rofl2:

Some good news anyway.
Coincidentally, we are having Haddies tonight. Lightly coated in breadcrumbs and accompanied by baby new tatties and garden peas. ( from Whitehills)* the fish, not the peas!

So glad you fixed it & now we know the C2 is a sensitive to battery issues as a C4!
