Supremely optimistic! I've never come accross a main dealer who will do a clutch on ANY vehicle for a reasonable price. It's just not in their DNA. When they hear the word clutch they think you've just told them to rebuild the car.
When I was looking to have a Xantia clutch done the specialist price was around 300 and the main agent wanted 399, not too far off the mark.

I have a Picasso with a DMF, it's been chirping for a while now (years) I'll swap it when it starts juddering. It's got 80k plus on it and I'll be replacing it like for like, leaving it standard :)

I refer you to the financial interest comment! Direct injection engines are inherently harsher than prevoius generation diesels, hence the need for damping

Yes, very true.

I wouldn't ever put a DMF back into a 2.0HDi 8v (you don't have any choice with the others), they are designed to fail in my opinion and the costs are just the extra kick in the teeth. We have never had to change a clutch in any car until we started driving cars with DMFs. We have had two DMFs fail, both cars had a very meaty friction plate still and one car had only 25,000 miles on the clock. So you can understand my annoyance with them. As said, the 2.0HDi 8v is fine with the conversion kit as it was designed to run with a solid flywheel.

Our 2.0HDi 110 C5 has a solid flywheel, it was put in at 60K miles when the original DMF gave up. Its done 100K on the solid coversion and its still fine. The only difference I can tell between that and other 2.0HDi 8vs which have a solid flywheel is the bite is a bit higher. However, no vibrations or ill effects. Our car is also used to tow a horsebox and its peace of mind the DMF isn't there to fail again.

No brainer. :)

However, I would be very careful about fitting a conversion kit to other engines not designed to be without it. My experience with our C5 says the 2.0HDi 8v is fine for conversion.

Did you find the Hdi smoother with the solid flywheel Chris?

the bodywork on your pi*s*c*s*ooooo is melting away :yikes: :-D , so by the time you do the clutch you will probably be able to get straight at the gear box
