Steve, I'm sorry, that item you have taken a picture of is not the multifunction switch, that's the Kostal connector which connects the ECU to the gearbox.

The switch is located just behind the gear selector cable termination where it clips onto the the selector shaft. See just beyond it a strange shaped diecast ally and plastic device - that's it.

Follow its lead up the clean its connector too.

Also, always worth cleaning the ECU connector at the ECU end too. The ECU is in a very hostile place under the battery tray. To get at it you need to remove the battery tray and that means removing the air box again!

Oh, and don't forget to disconnect the battery first

I hate it with a passion, don't get me wrong, it's a good little car, and great as a run about, but it's crap on the motorway, and just tinny......... plus it has the get up and go of a skateboard....

See you've set me off now

Well been out to the Xantia this evening and its still the same, so I'm back in the Polo tomorrow, thankfully the C6 is back on Thursday so I will be driving that from Friday onwards unless the Xantia puts its dummy back in and the gearbox starts working again. Which no doubt it will do on Thursday morning.........flaming thing......

At least it will give me chance to sort out the LHM leak I suppose, which reminds me I must get some more I'm down to my last 2 litre and I owe Jim one of those....... I also think one of the spheres is on the way out as the ride can be bumpy on occasion, not all the time, just some.

Anyway, almost bedtime for me, got to be up at 4am

Don't go there Jim, to be fair the only reason I hate is because it's a 1.2 no injection, nothing. I mean it does what it was designed for, bobbing about town, nipping to the shop, etc...... it's just when you get it in the motorway.

I'm not feeling very spoilt at the moment Mark. More like taking a hammer to it. How Simon (Mandrake) puts up with his i'll never know.
