Well, after finishing work this afternoon, I decided that as the Xantia was no better than yesterday, I would have a look at maybe trying to get at the gearbox switch and give it a clean with some contact cleaner, working on the principal that it's broken anyway.....
What a pig to get at.......... Jim told me once that before you do anything on a V6 you have to take the air filter off, and boy oh boy he wasn't wrong...... the gearbox multifunction switch is located behind the battery, under the fuse box and to the bottom right of the air filter (Harry Houdini eat your heart out..........
I managed to get my fingers to it and get the connection off, I've given it a good soak in Electrical Contact Cleaner and I managed to get the connector back on and off a couple of times for good measure. I've put the Xantia back together, but left the battery off for a bit just as an after thought more than anything.......
Whilst, under the bonnet i spotted where I've been getting an LHM leak from, it's never been much of one but I couldn't find it, mainly because I thought it was coming from underneath.......... oh no, it's coming from on top, one of the pipe that runs across the near side of the radiator has a push together jubilee clip that secure a rubber pipe to a metal one, and yes it's coming from there.....
I haven't got a small proper Jubilee clip so I'll pick one up tomorrow and swap it over......
Just going through the paperwork of the Xantia to organise getting the windscreen replaced and I discovered that the MOT is due on the 14th August
just a day after the C6
things could turn out expensive....
