I have considered the possibility of doing just that, well, not your ZX, but to be honest, the Xantia, I love driving, I really need to get this switch sorted, I have access to another one, it's just finding the time to get there and sort it.

Sorry to hear of the gearbox problems again Steve, did you manage to get your Lexia working yet ?

If you could get a working Lexia onto the car while it's symptomatic it would eliminate a lot of guesswork and frustration - if its holding in first gear and won't change up to second and the snow and sport lights aren't flashing, and moving the gear lever back and forth eventually cures it, it's really got to be the switch...

Hi Simon,

This is frustrating, No, haven't got the Lexia working yet, Paul and I have a plan to try and see where the 2 I have aren't working.....

I've just put the battery back on and it's working fine again, but what's really strange is the alarm is now working...... so I really am confused now. There's no flashing lights on the snow or sport buttons, so I'm stumped to a degree,

One thing I just thought of - when the problem happens where it won't change out of first gear, I presume you're in drive at the time - does the dashboard display indicate drive or does it indicate first as if you had manually selected first ?

Is the battery possibly dropping voltage just enough to upset the ecu so that after cranking it throws a hissy fit in some way?

FF's are common for this with older batteries and sometimes a recondition helps and other times its just time to swap the battery :(

What AH rating is it as there are a few in the garage that are Pauls but the biggest of those is 72ah, if it would work. The one i have left is from a rangey and is 110AH and i reckon a good 7" longer than the standard battery in a xantia im afraid :)

Will, battery is a 50Ah but I don't know how long it's been on, so that is a possibility.

Simon, I know, I really need the use of a Lexia, Paul has offered to lend me his, the trouble is, the problem is so intermittent I don't know how long it will be before it happens again...

Yeah, that would be good Will. I will try anything once. Will be at work from 15:25 until 00:15 but can make it earlier if that helps

Drop us a text in a bit and let me know what your thinking. I'll go get it reconditioning now as I'm free for a few days at least now :(
