I just got back from there with one =D> =D> . Should I try fitting it tonight? The car it came out of had no deployed airbags, and the inertia rells looked as clean as mine do....

Don't know what happened there... I wrote a reply, sent it, and my Pc threw a tantrum. Now I find that Post may or may not have gone somewwhere, so I'll do it again.

I have just got one from Woodgates - nice guy..! Should I fit it to my car tonight? I read somewhere that if a good ECU is fitted and - in My case - the pretensioners were NOT actually fired in the original incident, then after a certain number of vehicle power on cycles, the SERVICE light will extinguish as the ECU is happy the Pretensioners are OK.

True? An old Wive's tale? Worth trying..??

If you can fit it and try cycling the system it would be worth it, think its 7 complete cycles or something like that or if you can get here tonight I can re set it but I do have a fair bit to do so couldn't spend ages with you.

It'll probably take me a good hour to install it, and then it's not much short of an hour from here to Chatham - how does that do you for time?

This Post is the biggest THANK YOU for all the assistance I have received by way of suggestions from yourself (h2ocooler), Ben82, Wheeler, Gibbo2286 and stickyfinger.

Having found no explanation of what a fired seat belt pretensioner exhibits by way of evidence that it has fired - smell or debris - I was very loath to go down the route of replacing my seatbelts which were, to my mind, OK. I eventually visited my local Scrappy, GM Woodgate in High Halden - very nice guy, but don't get him talking or you'll never leave there - and found an ECU in a car that had been stripped of almost everything BUT the airbag ECU (even the airbag cabling had been taken, by CUTTING it off the ECU plug - what idiot did that...!), which only needed to be unscrewed. How lucky that was because removing my centre console later was a real pain, with all the cables that have to be disconnected...!??

After having arranged to visit h2ocooler up in Chatham yesterday evening, I fitted the replacement ECU, not expecting any miracles, but someone must have been listening to my prayers, interspersed with much colourful language whilst completing the replacement, because, when I switched on the ignition for the first time, when the boot-up process was completed, the miracle happened - NO SERVICE WARNING INDICATOR..!!!

WOW.!!! =D> =D> =D> :-D :-D £10 for a replacement ECU, much swearing and praying while fitting it, and I just saved £360 for a new ECU at my Citroen Garage. :-D :-D

THANK YOU EVERYONE, for your help and advice.

I can now pass on that it is highly likely (at least 90%) that when your system shows Pretensioners Fired, and they are CLEAN... IT IS TELLING PORKIES...!!!

Well thats really cool.

I did nothing much mate just tried to cheer you up as I knew the help would come. "These" type of problems are nearly always easy to solve if you have a depth of experience and the guys here seem to have it.

I would still try and find a good local Indie that you can trust, its not all electrics with C5's, the "old School" if you can find one. They know more than any of us put together about the dirty and wet stuff :)

Good thing this TinterWeb thingy :)

Excellent news Will, I'm guessing you got it hooked up to h2ocooler's lexia to check comms with the airbag ecu, just to make sure all is fine and dandy with it? :)

No, he set off to France for the weekend early this morning, and I only got the car up and running around 8 last night, so I'll take it to him by arrangement next week, when he gets back.

Thanks again for your very kind help, and I wish you a safe and happy return home on Monday. =D> :-D
