To be brutally frank, I can't see the logic in buying a car with a fairly well accepted poor MPG if you're looking for economy. No matter what anyone says, the 2.2 is NOT an economical engine. If you are happy to commute at 35 mph, avoid stops where there is a hill in front, select roads with side protection from crosswinds, travel "in convoy" on the most economical lane (now illegal on motorways) freewheel downhill, travel only in fine weather, avoid excessive idling and empty the car of everything but the absolute essentials, (a few of the super milling techniques), then ANY engine will be much more fuel efficient.
If you want to enjoy the car for it's merits, and drive it as you normally would, then don't expect to save much money over the Mondeo. There are plenty 2.0l cars out there with better fuel efficiency.

Thanks for that, noted, I do feel as though I would probably have to work very hard to Get good mpg from it, and I think in my head,if this car was the 2.0 hdi then I would have been down there this morning looking at it. I think I'll take nite of what's been said, and probably give it a miss as it's probably not going to save me lots of money

If you want something economical you need the 2.0. Hdi C5, mine has averaged 58.9 mpg for the last 3600 miles, the 2.2 I had would only do about 40 mpg.

I think you're probably sensible to have a good think about it. No doubt the C5 exc is a nice comfy car and although I'm not familiar with the earlier 2.2, the one I have just does NOT want to tootle along at 35 mph and is happier (and me)to do what it's best at.
Also, given the likely marginal increase in mpg over your Mondeo, you are possibly going to lose it all on the more expensive diesel prices.

TBH if it were me i'd just get a C5 SX or standard exclusive as the satnav is poop anyways but it gains you cruise and climate control.
Leather is cheap and easy to add in if you want it and the 2.0HDi110 engine can easily get 50+mpg. Mine just got 46mpg from a short 5 mile trek to work and back and nipping about shops and stuff locally with just one 20mile run to another office and back and that was it :)

I didn't think the exclusive came with leather and sat nav as standard anyway. There are loads for sale with cloth seats . They have a bit of plastic wood here and there but plenty exclusives have cloth seats.

Yea, I too have seen exclusive trim without leather, maybe all exclusive SE came with the leather. Also, what are the xeoen headlights like on the exclusive, are they with getting a exclusive over a sx if the car is a similar price

Would I be right in saying the Exclusive is the only model with Hydractive suspension as opposed to the lower spec having springs?
Not sure about the SE spec, as I think the new shape has less models and the SE has been dropped from the Executive model. In the new car, leather is an option and not standard in any spec, and sat nav is only standard in the VTR + Nav. The Xenon's are not standard on the Exclusive either.

Aren't they all hydractive 3, but the ones with the sport button are hydractive 3+?
I once saw an exclusive mk1 without the sport button but I thought the original spec sheets said they all should.
I had an SX and that had the sport button.

Both of mine were SXs but only the 2.2 had the six spheres and sport button.

Perhaps it's just the 2.2 and v6 engines then?
