Ahhhhhh Have you got the right one is the Q. There isn't supposed to be two, but theres a Second Orface that could be mistaken. Ill have to take a Pic of the Cam in the Correct "Timed" position for you to compare, unfortunally, it wont be till monday now...

Is there a 3rd Piston deactivator on that pump?? Its a Plug that points straight UP off the top of the pump...
Im sure ALL Xantias have them, but I cant see it on yours...

yea there is paul..i took it off to put one from my old pump on and lost both bloody o rings!! it was the last thing i was doing today...i put an o ring on it from the old pressur reg but it pissed out fuel so i shut it off

Taffy, what state was the old belt in when you took it off? You need to go back to the original fault - double check that none of the rockers are broken or bent, check for excessive gap at the valves indicating a bent one, double check the timing of the cam - the pin should be at about 7 o'clock when it's timed up. If the timing is OK, then I rather suspect a loss of compression due to bent valve or damaged rocker....

old belt was good and diddnt look old...all this started when fuel pump jamed...ive checked rockers once...before she was started for first time after fuel pump refit..and all were sound...i was lucky and the belt diddnt look like it jumped all teeth were intact...i will be taking the rocker bk off first thing to see if anything happened after first start...i hope i do find a broken rocker..and yes the cam timming has been an issue to me as i couldnt find something quite right to fit the hole...it could be out a tooth...ive tried most things now so i will start allover again starting with rocker cover

Theres no valve clearences.. the hdi is hydraulic lifters..
The plate behind the cam is a funny shape.. the valves on the two outer cylinders should all be closed.. in that on the cam shaft the rocker lobes should all be in the upwards direction and not opening any of the valves.. the engine is timed on TDC ...

and the problem is......
how lucky i was to not break one when the pump jammed....then one broke the first time i started it!
one in from the vacum pump(1 i think)....all adds up now lol!
