Just finished a couple of sweaty hours on the C5, my 24" breaker bar got the bolts undone but nothing but the big hammer got the bolts out of the caliper, I tried a hot air gun, it sniggered, then out came the blowlamp, no effect whatsoever, an engineers vice mounted to a steel workbench, a variety of drifts and eventually they were free from the caliper, then I reamed out the caliper holes using a drill to get rid of the pesky locking fluid and reassembled using coppergrease, the caliper did split into two halves but cleanliness ond not losing the square section O ring during reassembly has worked, I also made a gasket of viscoene (sp?) to keep the alloy caliper and the steel arm apart. tomorrow the other side :)

Interesting reading, especially as my rear brake pads are worn at an angle so I'm assuming the calipers are leaning.
One question though,
My Haynes manual says replace the brake pipe seal, but I can't see a seal and nobody on this thread has mentioned them.
Isn't the C5 pipe connector just like any "normal" car?
If I need new seals, where do I get them please?

There is no seal on the brake pipe, its an ordinary flared brake pipe, it is also possible to swap the calipers from one side to the other, thus getting a new face to corrode away, I managed to fix the one I did without resorting to new parts other than pads, though it would have helped to have some new bolts as they took a serious bashing to get them out of the caliper, the calipers will probably come apart, do not lose the little O ring between the halves, have fun.

Cheers for that,
just ordered new pads as one is worn down to the metal while the other 3 are less than half worn.
Curious, given that the pistons move freely and nothing seems to be stuck.
Might not get round to it this week though as my parents are coming to stay and to be honest, when it comes to my Dad and car mechanics, I can do without the "help" !
