Ahh now, there was an S1 (MK1), S1.5 and S2 XM taffy..

Differences are significant... S1 had Hydractive 1 and very poor electrics but looked as cool as a cucumber, especially the dash... The S1.5 had Hydractive II and better electrics but still looked like an S1 and the S2 was a major facelift which make it look more like an S1 Xantia, especially the dash.

S1 and S1.5 XMs can be identified at the front by the grille Chevrons being offset to one side and at the rear by the name 'CITROEN XM' in block capitals on the tailgate.

S2 cars have centrally mounted chevrons at the front and on the tailgate the letters 'XM' is in script rather than block capitals.

S1 and S1.5 cars are more stylish and cool. S2 cars are perhaps more functional but loose a bit of character... Most S2 cars had Xantia-type Anti Sink suspension.

S1 cars were produced from 1089 to 1992, S1.5 1992 to 1994 and S2 1995 to 2000

You can although very late ones are rare as production in the later years was very low..

Before you ask, there was never an HDi XM...

Yupe, they are rare. You have to watch some descriptions (ie., one of only 4 left in the UK, Yeah Right!). This would be one of the last;

I don't know for sure Taffy but I'd expect it was the low volume production of the XM didn't warrant it and besides late XMs could be had with either the 2.1TD XU11BTE or 2.5TD DK5 engine which is an absolute gem.

There was a lot of stuff even on the last XMs that was not updated. Right up to the end they had a keypad immobiliser and a 30 pin diagnostic socket where several years before more numerous Citroen had gone to the RFID immobiliser and a 16 pin diagnostic socket for instance. There are many more examples of bits of them that might have been updated had they been more numerous - in fact even in the last ones there’s still a lot of S1 stuff and in fact a 2000 XM compared to a 2000 Xantia or early C5 looks a very old-fashioned car. None the worse for it though...

NOT Quite Jim.. S1.5 Still had Hydractive one with a single electro valve, BUT has improved Computer Settings, and are 98.9% chance of working, and almost all do.. The XM S2 then got the more trouble some Hydractive 2 with two Electro valves and dodgy diodes.. :-D

The S1.5, other improvements are S1 Dash etc, but the addition of Bolted EARTHs over the plug in's, this improoving the electronics etc on the cars. I swear by the S1.5 cars.. From around K 1993 to M 1994.. Carefull though, S2 cars are also on M plates..

Whats to be Cautious?? Its a S1 24v in virtually IMMACULATE condition!

Well worth the price being asked, if you ask me!

I meant more the numbers left rather than the XM herself. I agree that she looks superb, but only 8 RHD V6 24V in GB and Aus?
