I know how it is. Money appears to vanish before you even get to think about the possibility of the chance of the likelihood that it might make an appearance in your wallet!

I would check your rockers ASAP. You might (only might, mind you) have got away with it. However, if you need to get some, this works out the cheapest;

which is a damned sight cheaper than getting 16 of these;

Just having a read through this.. Thats unusual for a pump to Jam.. however, Ive never opened one up.

I guess I could, Ive got one in the shed that was on my car but couldn't cope with a heavy foot and would cut out all the time.

A pump to swap is virtually the same as the old XUD... Did you remove the pump from the engine to open it up Taffy?

Theres no locking holes on the HDi pump, as its not timed at all, it simply pressureises the Fuel rail.. the timing effectifly is the injectors..

Removeing the pump theres three 13mm bolts on the shoulders of the pump body, and a third at the end under the fuel outlet pipe.. The pully is tricky, however I have managed to remove them twice now with the belt still in place. I undid the pully nut, and then used a screw driver and tapped it between the pully and body, the pully came away, but sat on the top mount lower edge, removed the pump and re fitted it.. As theres no key way it goes back easilly enough...

Rocker fingers have roller bearings in them, and these shatter as well as the fingers break in half.. but the valves do NOT bend.. The cam its in a 5 bearing cam carrier which has its own set of securing bolts do the head bolts do NOT need disturbing (Unlike Vauxhalls 8v engine! The head bolts hold the cam carrier AND HEAD down all together!!! If you want the cam out, you need to undo the head bolts!! HOW S H I T E is that!!??)

So get the cam out and all the valves will sit out the way.. You can then undo the crank bolt on the starter.

As for Aux belt... The tensioner is FAR SUPERIOR to the older spring loaded one! Unless its weak, or siezed, I wouldn;t worry about changing it, they are far longer lasting, and not as expensive as the older ones! Mines still fine at 247k, Its been on since 156k, and even then I dunno how old it is!!

I sign of weakness is the sound of drumming at idle but then that can be temerally cured by tightening the eccentric lower tensioner...

5 hours to do an AUX belt!!??? Having a laugh? An hour! more like it.. One bolt on the upper tensioner, and one on the eccentric!! Thats it!

Pump compatability? Any pump from the "Original" 8v HDi engine, be it a 90 or 110 it does NOT matter! Be sure it looks the same with the third piston deactivator on top.. Stick it on and GO... I didn;t need the computer on mine when I did it. Even though I have it..

I just did some maths, and even though only 8 rockers are needed it STILL works out cheaper to get the 16 rockers (£111 inc. p&p) as opposed to getting eight of the others (£112 inc. p&p). It might even be worth 2 people who need them getting one set of 16 and then splitting the cost.

EDIT; That 5 hours was to do the timing belt, but we all know how some dealerships are. 3 hours for the aux belt (previous comment applies).

Agreed, hence my comment after working out the costs. If I had the need I would go halves. However, Gracie doesn't need any, and (my apologies, Taffy) I sincerely hope she won't need any for a long time.

If it jammed up and "Ripped" the teeth out of the belt then theres a good chance you will, but then only on the valves that were open. So, on that my guess will be FOUR at most. Theres no need to think of a "Well, ones gone the next may be soon!" policy. If four are broke then four you'll need... Remember 4 valves are always closed out of 8 at one time.. if that theroy works.. :-D

What you will need though Taffy, is one of those telescopic small magnets, as the needle pins from the roller bearing escape, so a good dig around with the magnet to get all the bits out will be needed...
