Perhaps regional assemblies might like to convene? I know that there is quite a contingent based in or around Southampton and I know we are not all teetotal! I'm up for it and DLM could have his arm twisted. Bernie, are you out there?

Paranoid. GSF Birmingham. Near Fort Parkway.
The Southampton crew, I could be up for that, its an easy drive for me from sunny Swindon. On a weekend anyway.

Jon,
If you live in Swindon and work in GSF Brum...Why??? Says he who used to do a 200 mile round trip each day to the office, but it was on the company's diesel and I wasn't there much anyway...

I run a red td with a private plate (sad I know but it was a gift honest, and i have sorta grown fond of it) if you ever see me say hello, you will recognize me there will be a pi*sed off woman in the passenger seat, mumbleing about coming here again we were supposed to be going to the fort[:D][:D]

Erm Southampton's not exactly central? How about the place I mentioned in "Bath sneaky bypass"? its very easy to find, 9 mile off the M4 and loads of parking available? :-) Its about 75 min drive from B/ham double that from Manchester.. prob 3 hours from B/pool.. ??

'cos he likes driving his Citroen?
OK then, evening of Saturday April 3rd ok with all? If so I'll find a pub with a large car park that serves food for those who are travelling.

I think an evening meeting in Southamton is rather impracticle for anyone having to travel for more than say 2-1/2 --3 hours. In my own case it would not be a good idea to spend an evening eating and drinking after a 5 hour drive, then be faced with the return 5 hour journey in the dark?? [V] arriving home at what? 5-6 am??
Personaly.. and bearing in mind we have members from Jordieland, B/pool, Yorkshire, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, etc etc I think Southampton is far too inexcessable, the only decent road is the M3 running ENE toward london? There is no decent road going North or West really, its all 40 mph speed camera country... [V]
We Need (A) the meeting place as close to a motorway Jctn as possible.. (B) In an easy to find place.. (C) Plenty of parking available.. (D) A pub and/or a cafe close by.. So I am going to propose a midday meeting in the Bath area, (see "Bath a sneaky by-pass" under general chat) at say 1-2pm ish? as an alternative.. [8)]
I seem to remember that they run a riverboat from the Cafe down the river Avon into Bath and back a couple of times a day during the summer? that sounds like it might be fun? Maybe our friend "Webkin" who lives in Bath could help with more information on this? Re when it starts, cost, etc etc.. "Webby"?? you out there?? [:)]

Perhaps Tom was suggesting a meet for those local to Southampton to start with? Bear in mind he may be a bit preoccupied today as he's waiting for the result of an MOT.....
BTW - having travelled between South Wales and the Solent by most routes known to man I can understand you not wanting to submit yourself to trial by A-road (and Salisbury). The A34 does provide near-Motorway-class access to the Midlands from the Solent though - ask any convoy of French lorry drivers newly-disembarked from a Portsmouth ferry. OK then - it's more like a French Route Nationale than a motorway so perhaps they feel at home on it!

I'm happy with a Southampton meet as I live near Bishops Waltham.
Perhaps we could start there as there appears to be a goodly number of members around and then move further North for the next meet.

Southampton is central southern England, James! As DLM pointed out, A regional assembly was what I had in mind. Kered, Does the Crown still serve a decent pint and food? It has the car parking space.

I wouldn't suggest a trek to Bishops Waltham as it is a bit off of main routes and the "there" I was referring to was Southampton rather than Bishops Waltham. The Crown keeps changing hands and I haven't been there for years though I can recommend The Priory both for beer and food.

OK, I agree with Tom's suggestion re: Southampton, for a South of England meeting. If there are are meetings say on a Saturday night, then I would be willing to travel to any location, within fair reason to show willing. If Sat 3rd April is still on, I'm up for it, together with our tame Citroen Specialist Louis Barbour; and the founder of Andyspares in 1983, Richard Bartlett!! We're going to come down to Soton, have a few beers then spend the night on Richard's boat over at Portsmouth, then get a day's sailing in on the Sunday.
Will someone tactfully explain this plan to Mrs W.[8)]
