I had a hydractive centre sphere blow off rather spectacularly when unscrewing it once Taffy. It was impressive! LHM went everywhere....

It was on a scrap subframe and had been off the car for months and months but that centre sphere still held a healthy pressure!

Chris570 witnessed my misfortune and and almost wet himself laughing

hahahaha I bet but hell it blew off with a good bit of pressure! As for removing I prefer to put suspension on high and jus crack em off tite then drop it to remove...never broke a rear suspension component like this :)

Just waiting for repacement spheres, Monroe this time.
Don't hate me for this but the spheres came off easily, luckily my car has seen little or no salt so i was spared the rusted spheres scenario.
Sone small surface rust on suspension generally but none near the spheres, French car that made a lot of trips to Portugal so my problem is dust. The underside has a 1mm thick layer of fine dust that drifts down on you if you touch it.

As said set on high and opened 1/4 turn then down, pressure released and only a drizzle of fluid. No problems doing this in future as I now have confidence having done it once.

We don't hate you for it John, we direct our hate at our local authorities who toss salt around like confetti when it's not required.

There are but they cost considerably more than salt does Taffy. Salt is as cheap as chips...

I'm sure the authorities use far more than necessary and this does not help... Hereabouts it seems they only give the gritters a rest in the summer and then only if the overnight temperature remains above 20 degrees...

They're obsessed with the bloody stuff...

This is the tool needed for these sort of problems, you'll find most garages have them, both imperial and metric.
