Thats why they have a key blade in the card. In case the battery dies, same as any other remote card/key fob.

Unfortunately Taffy, those are pics of new Xantias. Give them the 13 yrs plus of salt and all the other issues, and lots are onto restoration and even welding. A Xantia aint no Moggy for simplicity either with doing clutches, clutch clips, belts, heater plugs, matrix and even rad hoses.

People driving Moggy's don't munch motorway miles and have all had new floors :-D They are friggin freezing and cramped...........about as much fun as a protest march

5 yrs ago for Xantia......different. There are so many cheap cars around now with a few years, then bin........C5.
If you find a good Xantia OK. if you want a resto project.....great, go for it.

Everyone has an opinion, sometimes based on a bad experience. That doesn't make the model a bad car, just a bad example of that car. We've probably all had them, but if they were all dogs, they wouldn't sell. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and one mans Holly Willoughby is another mans Sandy Toskvig.

I hope you manage to decide which one to go for Paul , I think you know which way I would go . I maybe looking at swapping myself soon and would seriously consider a Laguna 3 over my dream car ( black alfa Romeo 159 lusso estate with cream or black leather ) . Just watch the issues on the Lag 2 as mentioned .

Its interesting actually.. the opinions on the Ren Laguna would have you think the xantia is a perfect car.

1 heater matrix
2 suspension spheres
3 rear arm bearings
4 wires between the doors and car body.. back doors as bad as front
5 window winder cables
6 drivers door top hinge
7 xud head gaskets first time round. Not so much on hdi engines if at all..
8 door locks
9 strut top mounts
Can i make ten things on a xantia that are weak?? .... ummm not sure yes got it.. 10 blower motors though not that hard it is an issue

BUT my current xantia has given none of the above not even a heater in 240k yet lots give out at 100k or less

Now then. Of the Laguna

1. Key card
2. Window Winders
3. Turbos BUT owners influence by Renaults error with service schedule...so avoidable
4. Master cylinders but a so simple job and slaves have a bleed.

Ummm anything else? Not that i can think of. .

Ooooooo that's a strong case.. now i am thinking.

I think looking at that above the xantia would scare the S h i t out of me... if i didn't know anything but as said mines had none of it.

So its looking good for the Laguna... and ill just buy another for spares too...

Watch out for the rear suspension bushes Paul on the laguna 2 , you will hear a knocking on badly surfaced roads , if it's an estate with the opening glass watch the wiper spindle for seizing up and the tailgate release button getting waterlogged . It's French they all have issues but get a good one and there sublime and comfy , couldn't you stretch to a 2.0 Dci as they are a very impressive engine .
