OK, gotcha. Try pinning it up (they pin through the flywheel, IIRC). Last time I saw this it was a huge mistiming.

update:

Hi Jonh,
Some News:
The problem is to do with the main computer, the brains of the car. The sensors are working but mother board doesnt receive the message and can tell the car what to do.
They now have send the part to yet another place to asses the repair cost. I agree to this.
I am not going to get any news till about midweek next week.

Hi John, might be able to go and have a look with my Lexia and meters next week. PM me the location of the car and any other contact details.

If Halfrauds havn't got a Lexia, how can they diagnose a problem and offer a solution. Sounds like your landlady is in for a mighty big rip-off. If this car is an early C5, it wont respond to OBD2 software, so how can they analyze a problem and resolve it. [-X [-X I think they are just fishing in the dark.

Sounds like throttle pot or the throttle stepper motor but could be the throttle cable come loose or detached.

'Ere, Steve, aren't these fly-by-wire, as I thought the C series were all hooked into the Canbus system? Might go and consult the manual if all else fails. #-o =D>

Yes, they are. Throttle pedal is connected to the throttle pot by a cable then the stepper motor is adjusted with inputs to the ECU on the throttle position, temperature, airflow and pressure and all that good stuff.
